House Continues to Work on Amendments to H.R.1 (immigration)
Numbers USA ^ | February 18, 2011

...When the House begins its business on Friday morning, around 50 amendments (including two good immigration-related amendments) will receive 10 minutes of debate each, after which there will be a series of rollcall votes on these amendments. Hopefully, H.R. 1 will receive a full floor vote by late Friday afternoon. The good immigration-related amendments could include a one-year moratorium on the visa lottery and a ban on further action against Arizona...Here's a description of the four amendments...

No. 225 by Rep. Goodlatte of Virginia to ban the State Department from using funds to carry out the Visa Lottery. This amendment would essentially kill the Visa Lottery for one year. NumbersUSA supports a YES vote on this amendment.

No. 199 by Rep. Poe of Texas to ban the Justice Department from using funds to sue Arizona over immigration laws. This amendment would force the Obama Administration to withdraw its immigration-related lawsuits against Arizona. NumbersUSA supports a YES vote on this amendment...

Oh what joy if they would get rid of the visa lottery once and for all. We do not need any more poor people who will immediately qualify for benefits to immigrate here. But a one-year pause would be better than nothing.

Great bills.....and I will be keeping an eye on their passage....

If they do not pass....it better not be anyone in the GOP killing these bills....

Not familiar with the rep from VA...but quite familar with Rep Ted Poe....he was one of the reps who stood up for Ramos and Compean when the Bush Admin railroaded them for shooting the Illegal Alien drug dealer.

You are right. It was there this morning, and had a couple of updates in it. So I suspect it is being rewritten. Here is a link to their news page.

Last night, the House unanimously approved a resolution that lists the remaining amendments to H.R.1 that will receive consideration. Three of the four immigration-related amendments will not come up for a vote, but Rep. Ted Poe’s amendment to prevent funding to the Department of Justice to be used in the lawsuit against Arizona will receive a vote. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and urge your House Rep to support this amendment. Click here for a full description of the amendments that were under consideration and our position on each. Amendment that will receive a vote:
No. 199 by Rep. Poe of Texas to ban the Justice Department from using funds to sue Arizona over immigration laws.
