While it is true that there are SOME overpaid people in education and it is true that there are SOME lazy people in education, it is also true that there are overpaid and lazy people in every profession. Your profession included. I would like to see someone attack your livelihood, take away benefits you have been promised, and see how you respond. The bottom line is that freerepublic is a gathering place for complainers and whiners who love to beat up on public education. They are just negative voices who have nothing constructive to add to the discourse. I might also add that they are extremely ignorant, arrogant, and childish in their comments. While I disapprove of unions and the behavior in Wisconsin, it sickens me to see the response of the pack of jackals here at freerepublic who rejoice to see others lose the standard of living many of them have worked hard to earn. The next time you don't like the way things are going at your job and you try to change it or speak our against it, maybe you should just be fired. Or does that type of treament only suit all the so called evil forces conspiring against you in your little paranoid conservative world? I bet some of you are the loudest complainers at work and your bosses would love to get rid of you but you're probably dug in like a big fat tick- just like the teachers you malign.

Cry me a freakin’ river. Who put a gun to your head and told you had to be a teacher? Get a job in the private sector and see what the real world is all about. I live in New Jersey and the teachers union here is nothing but a bunch of over-paid thugs. People like you make me sick!

Are you a public employee? Just asking!

Agree with your first sentence.
However, it’s about the everyone else who has been paying the over compensated salaries of those in government - while making sacrifices and taking cutbacks for years while the unions continue to ask for more and to be immune from economic reality.
The bill has come due. And the money is gone Bub.

The real world thins the herd from time to time. Productive, profitable companies keep people employed. It’s the law of economics.
And just to be clear - government seems to have a surplus of overpaid, stupid, lazy people. Capiche?

Why does one need a union at all when working for the government?

...it is also true that there are overpaid and lazy people in every profession. Your profession included. Not mine. I was a carpenter in the home building trade. No benefits, no severance pay and if you didn't put in a hard day's work every day with a minimum of mistakes you were out. Period. Down the road without recourse as it should be.
Not only that the work I did 25 years ago is still serving some family well today.

Nobody owes you a living. Once you realize that, you are no longer at the mercy of others.
If you lose your job, you go and find a new one or you go out and invent a new one. You do whatever is necessary to take care of yourself and your family.
It’s that simple...

You, Sir or Ma'am, are a perfect example of a government
class, ruler elite snob. We as taxpayers have a right to
keep as much of our hard earned money as we can. You as a
public employee have no more certainty of that money than
we do. The one caveat you government pogues always seem to
overlook is that we [private sector] must get paid before you [public sector] get paid. If you don't like this I suggest you move up the food chain a notch or two.
