Several Texas cities (Lubbock, College Station, Austin) have stopped the red light camera scam. It finally dawned on those sharper citizens that the camera companies were taking 2/3 of the $75 fines.

Yes, the cities are learning that along with their smaller “cut”, they also receive ALL of the scorn.

Cities should have BOUGHT the equipment. Next thing you know they will be leasing the fleet of police cars.

$75 red light fine??? Holy crap, I haven’t gotten a red light ticket in more years than I can recall, but here in CA I would bet you that those tickets are $175 dead minimum, and, the thing they do out here is to DOUBLE moving violation fines and add court costs. So such a ticket would be (guessing) $175 + $175 + $38 = $388. Oh yeah, easily.
