I doubt it. The liberal voters of Massachusetts are going to eat this up with a spoon. There will be a lot of ticket splitters in MA in 2012. They'll vote Obama and Brown.

Sure he's a RINO, but it beats another Massachusetts Democrat.

Anyhow, a caution should be drawn from history. Attempts to purify Republican held positions, absent a strong candidate to replace the weak Republican, typically end up ceding them to Democrats. The Committee for Growth was notorious this way. This is Massachusetts, where the political elephant is on the almost-extinct list.
