Heres what the Party of Ideas was up to while Chris Christie was over at AEI talking about Social Security and Medicare. I spent a half-hour looking for video, but no dice so far. Which seems strange: Why wouldnt the Democratic leadership want to highlight a photo op with a fictional aardvark during our very serious national debate about the deficit? Is the clip embargoed? Free Arthur! Free the aardvark!
On the upside, this really isnt any sillier than having Colbert testify on immigration.
Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) rarely holds press conferences with animated aardvarks, but he went for it on Wednesday, coaxing the shy Arthur the Aardvark up to the podium.
Come over here Arthur, Markey beckoned to the human-sized title character in the PBS series, Arthur: The Worlds Most Famous Aardvark, motioning for him to come up to the podium, as a small crowd of curious tourists began forming. Nearby, Rep. Betty McCollum clutched an Elmo doll and a stuffed Big Bird sat on the podium both ready to fight in defense of funding for public broadcasting

I thought federal funding for the PBS was only a small fraction of where they get their funding from....?
Perfect.
Aha! Bert and Ernie holding a sign for “GOPink”. Wasn’t that the group that joined CPAC? So the rumors about Bert and Ernie are true...!

As long as they keep Big Bird.
Or so they would have us believe.
Actually, that’s Bert.
How about we just cut the funding of PBS and FORCE them play re-runs of the Old School Sesame Street (70’s early 80’s), (which is downright conservative by today’s standards).
Sesame Street sucks anyways ever since they added Elmo to the cast and Mr. Hooped passed away.
What is funny is that they are loosing their relvance as other networks such as Nick JR. and Sprout, etc... Have taken over the important 1-6 year old demographic. Also networks like Bravo, TCM, and BBC America have chipped away at the “Mind numbingly boring British crap” stuff that PBS used to be the only source. (Doctor Who not withstanding that assesment).
With the sheer amount of media proliferation there is no more “need” for PBS as most americans, even supposedly “dirt poor ones” at least get basic cable/staelite that has many other channels that fill the same purpose.

Rubber Ducky, was a euphemism for safe sex.....
I always enjoy the fact that they trot the shows that generate a *PROFIT* for PBS as the ones in danger.
And he looks angry.
You are right!
And it’s always the children’s shows (”it’s for the children!”).
That’s only for the purpose of picking donors’ pocketbooks. I used to work for a PBS station. We had the distinction of being the only PBS station in a major market NOT at the bottom of the local ratings. We were quite proud of that.
“Aha! Bert and Ernie holding a sign for GOPinK”
This is exactly why I want NPR and PBS off the government dole. All the talk of fair and balanced broadcasting, why is it okay for public broadcasting to be described as moderate to left. Please do not place “Car Talk” as conservative to up the balance.
ALSO, I am so glad to see the use of Big Bird and other Sesame Street characters to protest cuts. What the hades has happened to the dollars of profit of the sale of the Sesame Street characters...why should a supposed “non-profit” benefit from profits and still expect gov’t money.
In each case I responded: I couldn't agree more! But it seems to me that those of us who watch/listen should buck up when the pledge drives come around. It doesn't seem fair to ask folks who don't watch to pay for it, or, really, since we're so broke, borrow it from our children... to pay for our entertainment.
And in all four cases, their threads just died, no additional comments, no additional likes...

Did you work at the notorious station in Iowa that played a LOT of the Red Green Show and always won the Red Geeen Beg-a-Thons?
