Seems more IGNORANT than Arrogant...like over 1/2 the voters in this country.
I used "arrogant" on purpose. I don't know her personally, but there is among those in her field commonly a type of arrogance where they simply refuse to accept the possibility that they might be wrong about another culture.
I was listening to an NPR "expose" this weekend of American torture in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the interviewee stated that much of it took place because the interrogators believed "that's all these people understand."
The reporter of course agreed that these "stereotypes" were misguided and evil. No consideration even given to the remote possibility that the interrogators might be right in their belief.
That's the arrogance I'm talking about. It causes ignorance because the arrogance keeps them from even considering the possibility that they might be wrong in their beliefs.
