Could Libya be next?

Having seized power in 1969, Libya's Moammar Khadafy is the doyen of Arab despots. Yet now he may face the same threat that toppled his personal friends (and fellow despots) in Tunisia and Egypt.

The test will come tomorrow, when a coalition of opposition parties and personalities hopes to organize a "Day of Rage" against the maverick colonel's corrupt and repressive regime.

The day marks the fifth anniversary of an uprising in the eastern cities of Benghazi, Al Bayda, Darna and Tobruk that was crushed by Khadafy's army with the help of a special unit sent by then-Tunisian President Zine Al Abedine Ben Ali.

The 2006 "Day of Rage" was organized by tribal chiefs, intellectuals and religious scholars from Benghazi, Libya's second most populous city, which has never accepted Khadafy's rule.

This time, the invitation has come from a National Conference of Libyan Opposition, a group of six banned parties. The notorious Law No. 71 declares that membership in a political party is "high treason," punishable by death.

There are signs that the colonel might be nervous. State-owned media have started a campaign against the "Imperialist and Zionist conspiracies" that supposedly led to regime change in Tunisia and Egypt.

And I seriously believe that if tea partiers staged a Cairo-type scenario in front of the White House or the Capitol, we’d all be machinegunned.

And CNN/BBC/Google decide these things nowadays.

Same goes for Iran, North Korea and the like. Any uprisings there will be ignored, or given scant coverage, and any crackdown on the organizers, such as executions, will likewise receive very little ink nor air time.

In this environment in that region, only the dominoes that are in support of the United States and Western principles shall come under immense pressure and fall (to Pan-Socialism, Shiite or Wahabbist Islamofascism in most cases). This was the plan. All along.

That's assuming the American People would rebel (in such a way) against tyranny on their own soil, before the point of no return (the point of no returning being where it would be impossible or useless organizationally, logistically, communication-wise and the like, to rebel.)

Scanian, I lived in D.C. back in 1972 to 74. Was a great time as Nixon was being impeached and there was a great wave of American democracy playing out.
D.C. was a load of fun and you could walk up to and in the Capital without being challenged. Or all over the place.
A few months ago the wife and I were there and the whole place is like an armed camp.
You can’t get ANYWHERE near the White House and as for the Capital?
And yes, I would NOT be surprised to see protesters gunned down by one of the Many Many layers of crap ass security there now.
Course that would be an inquiry that would completely exonerate Obammy and company.

In addition to DC security, I have no doubt that the Regime has identified a loyalist military unit or two, led by craven careerist scumbags, stationed near the capital and ready to swing into action at any time.

Benghazi has a very interesting history, is very “westernized,” and is near the Green Mountains, which have supported guerrilla movements during the colonial era. I started to write a novel set there once. Very interesting. And the Green Mountains are lush and rainy like our Appalachians, not at all what you would expect in North Africa.

It would not surprise me if some ambitious Libyan General decided to arrange a personal interview with Allah for Kadaffy Duck, and his immediate departure from this world would be an incredible improvement in the gene pool.

That is indeed the pattern. Honduras was his first test case of what he (Obama) is. And also, it was the first case of a small country, slapping that guy but good, and going ahead with anticommunist democracy anyways.
