25,000 American POWs had been liberated from POW camps by the Soviets, but never returned to the US.

Were they in the end ?

I know some Soviet POWs begged not to return as thety knew they faced camps, trials etc but the Allies sent them back to Stalin anyway.

the correct version is this:

Those soviet troops who were in British zones in Germany were sent back, whether they wanted to go or not.

those Soviet troops who were in the American zone were NOT sent back and stayed in GErmany, then emigrated to the States, Canada.

those that went back to Stalin were killed or sent to Siberia.

See: Katyn Massacre, Vinnitsa, Kharkiv, and Berezwecz prison massacres. The US and Brits knew that sending prisoners back to Russia was a death sentence to the prisoners, but did it anyway.
