I agree!
A high speed rail system would need to be built from the ground up at Union Labor prices. The Japan rail system is separate and cruises at 120 mph. Japan is also about the size of California.
To build one here in the USA, it would cost several hundred billion dollars and would never be profitable. The maintenance alone on thousands of miles of special and separate Interstate track would bankrupt the Federal Government.
