So very true. Read the testimony from the congressional investigations: the Klansmen of Reconstruction were a bunch of murderous terrorists who sought to overturn what they could not accomplish on the battlefield or at that ballot box: The perpetual subjugation of black Americans.

His men at Fort Pillow, like the Nazis of Malmedy, the bombers of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, and the hijackers of Flight 77, all have on thing in common: they murdered innocent American servicemen in cold blood.

I guess, judging by the Klan apologists here, since they were black American servicemen it doesn’t really count as an atrocity.

No worries, though, if the Forrest license plate is torpedoed, you can always lobby for a James Earl Ray one.

if you read the many accounts of what actually happened at Fort Pillow , the Yankees had many barrels of booze within the fort and after they were under siege by NBF men the booze was broken out and unwisely distributed by the fort commanders in the hopes that the men would be fortified and would stand and fight . Some wished to surrender and did run up a white flag , and the Rebs responded by advancing with a white flag to parley a truce/surrender , whereupon they were opened fire upon my the boozed up men with the fort that didn’t want to surrender , yet whom were now shooting at the Rebs from underneath their own white flag . This infuriated the Rebs and a overrun ensued in which many Yanks were killed , and also no small number of Rebs . Finally survivors were taken as prisoners after things calmed down . How is that an intentional massacre of ‘innocent soldiers’ ? They and their CO showed very poor judgment and very poor discipline . Had they surrendered with honor they would have been treated honorably . Blame the booze , blame the stupid Yankee fort CO , but don’t blame NBF . Post war Congressional hearings were stacked with agenda oriented Yankees that wanted to extract their own pounds of flesh . He was not convicted of anything .
