The trailer for Atlas Shrugged Part 1 has finally been released!
I had the exact same reaction to that line....doesn’t ring true. Nor does it sound like a line Dagny would have uttered. I’m sure someone will now prove me wrong and show that it’s a line from the book; but it doesn’t sound right. The way she delivered it sounded like a line from one of those awful Lifetime-Television-For-Women movies my wife watches.
I’m very nervous about this. The book had a profound impact on my life and we know the lefty reviewers will have already written pans before they’ve even seen it. I hate to give them fodder.
Hank
Morgan Freeman would do a perfect Hugh Akston.
As to the speculation about her throwing the drink... that looks like Francisco. I slowed the vid down a bit, and a clip right before the drink-throwing bit shows the same guy at a party surrounded by women. That's gotta be Francisco. Isn't there a point in their relationship where she is so angry at him because he has thrown everything away?
I have not seen it yet... Plan to next week... as far as Bias goes or P.O.V., every idea has a bias or perspective or point of view. If you agree with a point of view you will not view it negatively. If you disagree with the bias or point of view, you will view it negatively.
You assumed that by using the word “bias” that I was against the film... I stated no such thing...
Ara
It’s got Quark!
:)
well it was a Loooooooooooooong speech. You are right!
No Minders allowed. We are from South Georgia.. We are awaiting the rise of the south again.
I wouldn’t mind getting in one more snowshoeing - but I've had enough of winter this year/
I don't believe HOLLOW-WOOD has a hand on it?
Ayn wasn’t a believer in God but she was an incredible person to come to this world. No man said what she said...with such conviction. Like cowards... it took a little russian lady to say NO to Socialism and Collectivism. For that we as Conservatives owe her a great deal...
This movie may add many more conservatives to the fold.
In the film, she says this line to her brother James and it is probably when she agrees to split off the John Galt Line and run it herself with no help from Taggart so that she can save Colorado...
In the book she tells Jim that she expects him to keep the Board off her back and she will give the whole thing back once the crisis is averted.
Good catch, I forgot about that. I thought Anonymous Rail Worker & Whistling Conductor were one and the same.
she was talking to her brother James when she made the double-cross statement. she wants to save CO with the John Galt line made of Rearden Metal and she breaks off the company to keep James and the Board from micro-managing her with a promise to give it back when she has succeeded. But she knows that James could double-cross her...
Leave it to Libbiewood to screw up a fine story. Count on it.
Why does the poster look like Atlas is carrying the obamanation logo?
You're right. Dagny is coldly sober, seldom smiling. Thankfully.
The trailer looks good! I have a good feeling about this!
Thanks. I'll look that up when I get a chance.
That's a good sign that the line appears in the book. I hope the screenwriters got the message Rand was sending.
You say that: "You assumed that by using the word bias that I was against the film... I stated no such thing..."
Let's review that. You first refuted my claim the RESTREPO was filmed without a bias or political agenda. You said And as far as Restrepo not having a P.O.V or bias is a false premise. Everything has a bias or a P.O.V.
So I answered you: "You've seen Restrepo? If you, what was the bias - and the P.O.V.? "
Where in that was any "assumption" that you were "against the film?"
I just assumed that you may have seen the film, thence giving you the basis of making the remark that it would have a bias, a P.O.V.
But it seems YOU are making the assumptions, for you haven't seen the film.
Sebastian and Tim deliberately filmed this documentary SOLELY as a window to what it is like to be a soldier in war - ANY war.
Neither they nor the soldiers made any commentary on the rightness or wrongness of the war, of the politics of it, or the agenda of it.
The cameras simply rolled - as the bullets flew, in battles, in down times, in sad times, in fun times...just WAR as it has always been faught by the boots on the ground. I guess that would be the 'agenda' - NOT a political agenda. Just to show WAR from and hour to hour, day to to day, battle to battle - for the soldier.
I HAVE seen the movie. Many times. I followed the Platoon for their entire 15 months - long before there was a movie.
Sebastian's book on it, titles simply "WAR", hit the shelves a best seller in May.
He accomplished what he set out to do - SHOW what war is for the soldier - is, has been, will be. No script. No rewrite. Just cameras rolling and recording whatever happened - except they didn't show the bloody and mangled bodies - out of respect for the soldiers and families...no agenda there but humanity.
Not trying to convince you of anything. Just setting the record straight in case others haven't yet seen it.
The uniqueness of how this movie was filmed, as opposed to all the other 'war' films, with the scripts, the agendas, the political biases, is exactly what has won all the kudos and prizes across the country - and may give it the Oscar.
'don''t have to much concern what you think about something you haven't even seen.
Have a good one.
