Three months after the first five XM-25 grenade launchers arrived in Afghanistan, and after only 55 25mm rounds were fired in combat, the troops don't want to give these new weapons up. The XM-25s work as advertised, firing "smart rounds" that explode over the heads of Taliban hiding behind rocks or walls, or hiding in a cave or room. Enemy machine-guns have been quickly knocked out of action and ambushes quickly disrupted with a few 25mm shells. Encounters that might go on for 15 minutes or longer, as U.S. troops exchange fire with hidden Taliban, end in minutes after a few 25mm, computer controlled, rounds are fired from the XM-25. While American infantry love gadgets, they are very eager about electronics that helps them in combat. The XM-25 is all that, and the troops want more. In response, the U.S. Army decided to let the paratroopers keep the five XM-25s, and to speed up construction of an additional 36. The word has gotten around in Afghanistan, and every combat units there is asking for XM-25s. Although warned to keep operational details off public Internet forums, XM-25 users are telling stories to other combat troops of a wonder-weapon that actually works.

***Not very good writin’ there. But I’m glad for our troups that the weapon works as advertised.
An explosive round an inch in diameter can pack a real wallop! That is the size of some darn effective ww2 era aircraft and anti-aircraft rounds.
A handgrenade at 2700fps and only $25K!
I’m saving some pennies.
Please let there be a civvy version. I’ll be good Santa!
I saw this demonstrated on one of the military shows. Can’t recall which. Very cool stuff.
I want one for Christmas
Good news. Maybe more of these will speed the end of the war!
Good News. I always felt like the M203 was a poor excuse for a weapon system. It forced one soldier to wear three hats, rifleman, grenadier, and team leader. Worse yet, it diminished his ability to wear all three hats as it divided his attention and compromised his equipment. It has other deficiencies that I won’t mention. I am very happy to see this weapon dropping HE on the towel wrapped heads of our enemies hiding in the dead space. I understand there’s a full auto version of this weapon too.
Let’s hope the Russians and ChiComs do not get their hand on this technology. They will sell it to anyone.
I agree with you.
A grenade, a laser rangefinder, a simple computer doing a Time/Speed/Distance calculation, moving the time solution to the fuse and applying superelevation to the sight.... and a little gunpowder.
Purty puhlease!!!!
Have you seen that Israeli model that folds in half to shoot around corners?

When SWAT teams in domestic police agencies finally get their hands on these weapons, they will be able to kill dogs and execute no-knock raids on the wrong house in record time.
Yep, I don’t know why staunch advocates of the second amendment get excited when the military gets game-changing technology like this. It renders any possibility of fighting back against a corrupt government even less likely, especially when it is designed specifically with counter-insurgency in mind... (dons flame proof suit)

Randy Johnson’s saving more.
>> It renders any possibility of fighting back...
Any thoughts 2DV?
