Seth Foster, 23, said he found his family garage in disarray last summer and sent his dog in the building to investigate.
Grizz, a blue heeler, returned with the culprit, a young raccoon.
As two teenage boys watched, one of them filming its actions with a cell phone, Grizz killed the coon, Foster said.
Now, Foster is facing a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty resulting in death, which is punishable by a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. A jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 25 in Jackson County District Court.

Hey boy! Go bite the presecutor!
Good dog! Bad prosecutor.
Absolute madness and total injustice.
I am not a raccoon fan, they don’t come around here often but as far as I am concerned they are the same threat to my turtles as a possum.
I’ll kill them myself, my stoopid dog will run the other way. My old .22 rifle with LRs and nobody will be the wiser or hear more than a loud snap. If GPD shows up I’ll blame my 84 yo neighbor, she’s crazy ;)
Well, it is a lesson to us all. The next time your dog chews a critter inside out (raccoon, rabbit, or mouse) make sure you take the carcass and dump it far away and when no one can see.
Guess I better watch out because squirrels in my yard are Dachshund bait.
And no cell phone photos!
Hell my dog won’t even chase squirrels. She sits there with her old red tongue hanging out while they sit up in the ash tree and chirp at her. If she ever once killed a squirrel I’d feed her the fat off my next brisket, but it won’t happen. She’d rather eat cat turds.
I’m gonna have to defend the perimeter around here, my dog is useless. Unless it is the letter carrier invading the front porch, then she goes nuts.
I got it, I’ll dump the carcass in the wheelie bin and let the City of Garland haul ‘em off to the landfill.
Huh.. Well, we won’t have any problems here, my golden retriever catches maybe one rabbit a year.. They’re just too fast for her lol
Nothing like charging owners for their animals acting like animals... Guess we will have to give up Dogs and Cats in our future...
What the heck? I praised my lab mix for nabbing a gopher. Broke its little neck.
LOL!!! Are you sure you don't live in E. TX? *chuckle*
A valid reason to have a pet is to keep certain vermin (like raccoons and overzealous prosecutors) from your property. Perhaps this prosecutor would have preferred it if a rabid raccoon bit someone?
My boxer has 2 groundhog and 1 bunny notch on his collar from this past summer. One of the 3 rodents ravaged my cabbage this past summer, so him wuz a good boy those days.
But we did have to do a bit of evidence tampering when he brought home somebodys peahen.
None of my neighbor ever had them before.
or since.
BS!
That little bandit should be brought up on charges posthumously.
Absolute insanity in action by this prosecutor. If charges like this were filed in my county, I think the Judges would sic the dog on the Prosecutor.
My new little rescue dog - part Sheltie, part Spaniel - likes to take on anything that runs around our back yard - which leads to an open park beyond. So I’m a criminal if she attacks a jack rabbit? This is nuts.
At least it is a jury trial. Hopefully someone on the jury will have some sense.
