The new chair of the American Conservative Union, Al Cardenas, today distanced his organization from GOProud, telling FrumForum in an exclusive interview that its going to be difficult to continue the relationship with the gay conservative organization.
The ACU, which annually organizes the Conservative Political Action Conference, has faced some criticism for including GOProud as a co-sponsor for the second year in a row. Socially conservative organizations have denounced the move, and the Heritage Foundation claimed that GOProuds inclusion was part of their decision to opt-out.
Cardenas, who was selected yesterday to replace outgoing chairman David Keene, told FrumForum that he disapproved of GOProuds response to the furor.
I have been disappointed with their website and their quotes in the media, taunting organizations that are respected in our movement and part of our movement, and thats not acceptable. And that puts them in a difficult light in terms of how I view things, said Cardenas.
GOProud had asserted that Cleta Mitchell, the chairman of the ACU Foundation, was pushing conservative groups and individuals to boycott CPAC because of GOProuds inclusion. Chris Barron, the chairman of GOProud, recently said in an interview that Mitchell was a nasty bigot.
Its going to be difficult to continue the relationship [with GOProud] because of their behavior and attitude, Cardenas told FrumForum.

I have a sneaky suspicion these people are not really GOPers.
And for you NRA members, the fool that so eagerly pushed GOProud’s participation in CPAC this year... David Keene... is set to become the new president of the NRA.
Groinal conservatives smell funny..
They don’t care that they think sex between men is normal.
They don’t care that they think homosexuals should be able to get “married”.
They don’t care that they want open homosexuals to be allowed to serve in the military.
They only care that they are costing them $ in lost sponsorships.
Brietbart and others are being suckers for pushing this group. Like the Dems are desperate to grab up the illegal alien vote, is the gay vote so important? And if you are gay and Republican why do you have to form a collective with fellow gay Republicans? What’s the one got to do with the other? What’s it got to do with Conservatism other than to try to get your agenda to suddenly be also part of the Conservative agenda. Makes no sense.
Thank God our gal Sarah had the wisdom to avoid this mess. She is one astute politician.
But they will, of course, make her non-attendance an issue.
I don’t have a problem with diverse groups participating in political discourse either.
I couldnt agree more. It is becoming too tribal. CPAC shouldnt be about liberal tribes but conservative principles.
