IMO the only move that had any chance of a good outcome would have been for Mubarak to have immediately left, taking the VP with his and turning things over to the military. This is the worst of all possible worlds.

They don’t have military weapons and are talking about attacking the military. Iran Muslims murdered the military commanders who supported the Shah and about 100,000 others. Maybe the military is looking at that.
