In a post I wrote regarding Michelle Obama and her plans to parent our children for us, I remarked about her $495 Tory Burch gardening boots. A few of the comments wondered why I brought them up, and why, as a capitalist, would I have a problem with pricey shoes?
The boots were mentioned to remind readers of how out of touch with reality the First Lady is. The average American mama doesnt have a single pair of shoes in her closet that cost that much, let alone gardening boots. When Im inclined to work outdoors, I put on a pair of three-year-old sneakers that are practically falling apart.
Referring to the self-appointed mom-in-chiefs aloofness when it comes to relating to us regular moms was useful to drive home the point that she is not qualified to make our parenting decisions for us. Only the best for the Obamas, whether its boots, school, vacation, vacation, vacation, or vacation. The rest of us can eat cake. Or carrot sticks.

You’re just being obtuse. There is nothing wrong with criticizing them. Nothing at all.
Spending $500 on stupid gardening shoes points out just out of touch they are with Americans.
I wasn’t complaining. Its easier to be an authentic banjo player when you discard the shoes.
We don’t have bugs here in Florida.
do i need a /s?
B.T.W., I loves me some good banjo pickin'.
Ouch! I crack myself up ;-)
When those cheap, clammy rain boots came into fashion over the last few years I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Taking a 15 dollar rubber Chinese boot and slapping Tory Burch, Burberry or Gucci graphics on the side and bammo 300 bucks. Unbelievable.
I’ll keep my rubber clogs from Southern States for gardening. I’d love to have the $500 for plants/seeds though.
Exactly. I ranch in rain country, mud up to my @#$ in the winter. I need a loose cheap boot to slip on and slip off 20 times a day. For serious muck work I have ankle gripping thigh high boots mud cant pull off. Like the other poster says tho, aint nobody taking my picture
I'd go one or two further: the vegetables appeared on the plates, beautifully prepared, seasoned and served. Then, said plates were whisked away.
Beginning and end of story.
SO you don’t believe it’s a valid point to bring up, that Michelle appears to be trying to look like the average person while wearing shoes the average person can’t afford?
And when you’re gardening, I am pretty sure people here wouldn’t bitch about her wearing ripped up shoes. Now if she went to a formal function looking like a sack of potatoes and beat up shoes, yes the frumpy charges would be valid.
>>LL Bean. Made in America, “to boot.”<<
Well done!!!
Frankly, she invites the criticism. As FLOTUS, you can’t talk about “people are hurting” and pay $495 for a pair of garden boots!
This is of a piece with her telling women in Ohio during the ‘08 campaign that they should do noble work, like teaching, public service, etc., while she was pulling in $320K/year from U of Chicago Hospital for doing nothing other than being married to a U.S. Senator.
I remarked about her $495 Tory Burch gardening boots... to remind readers of how out of touch with reality the First Lady is.
They are fugly. Are they waterproof and steel toed?
Obviously she ain't never had a dad who said "You want a fancy smancy TEN speed bike, GET A JOB" and when you tell him you got one moving irrigation pipe all he has to say is "and if you ruin those new boots I gived you I will kick your EVER LUVIN' A$$"...so you move the pipe in your bare feet...
Nope someone obviously said you are black they owe you.
Before someone (not you you have a big head and you are fred) posts the Aunt Jemima boy screaming I am a racist. I am a black man so save it.
