Civility is making the headlines lately, but if you dig a bit deeper, barbarism is the real story.
To wit: Last month, MSNBC.com carried this story from Reno, NV: Six girls arrested for Facebook Attack a Teacher Day invite. One middle school girl was arrested for inviting 100 fellow middle schoolers on the social networking site to participate in something she called attack a teacher day, while five other girls were arrested for responding to the invitation with threats against specific teachers.
<---snip--->
I hate to be the one to burst our national bubble about the potential for greater civility, but were rearing a generation that seems to have no concept that there are things you just dont do or say.

I don’t think you are allowed to notice that.
Well, when parents are afraid to discipline their own kids because they “might get arrested” when the kid cries ABUSE, what do we expect? I grew up with a smack now and then and I learned how to behave properly and what happens when I didn’t. Kids today are brought up with stupid TV shows that relay the message of “do whatever you want” and the government will take care of you. Uncle Sam is removing parental control and responsibility.
Parents, take back your kids! YOU are responsible for them!
And the flood of disgusting reality shows on TV. I fully expect to see one where the bathroom is the set.
There is no longer such a thing as privacy. I would love to get through a day without hearing about someone else’s most private things.
When those stinking hippies said “let it all hang out” - I guess they weren’t kidding. They raised their kids that way.
