GOP loves look of VP field
Politico ^ | 2/8/11 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Forget about Mitt, Huck and Newt.

From its highest levels to the grass roots, the GOP is buzzing over Marco, Bobby and Susana, as well as more than a half-dozen other junior Republican officeholders who have captured the party’s imagination in ways that the current 2012 presidential field hasn’t come close to doing.

It’s almost as though there is more excitement over the deep pool of vice presidential prospects than over the emerging roster of presidential candidates, which is largely composed of white, male, former and soon-to-be-former governors, none of them from the biggest battleground states. (Check out POLITICO's 2012 LIVE page)

On the vice presidential level, Republicans already are gushing over the sheer diversity of the candidates—unprecedented in terms of race, gender, geography and political experience — who could fill out the 2012 ticket.

That group includes a throng of young politicians who aren’t yet 50 years old and one, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who isn’t even 40. There are three Latinos in the group, two Indian-Americans, numerous women and candidates from almost every swing state in the country.

“Any time that you have a hugely successful year, like we had in 2010, we put a lot of dynamic candidates on the board. A lot of them won and they excited a lot of different people from a lot of different parts of the party,” said Chip Saltsman, who managed Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign in 2008. “Whoever the presidential nominee is, I think he’s going to have a huge VP list out there that he’ll be able to choose from.” (Related: Craziest moments of the midterms)

My prediction, not necessary my preference:

Perry/Palin 2012

Expect Perry to wear his Conservative hat till the primaries to court the TEA Party vote, Palin will have trouble securing the nomination due to states with open primaries.

Well, Perry has said repeatedly an dpretty strongly that he’s not running, on multiple occasions.

I could see Palin/Perry.

Also, as much as I like Gov Palin, I think 2008 did show some of the drawbacks of nominating someone with so little experience. I mean, We’re going to nominate Gov Martinez after a yr and half? Rubio after a year and half?

I don’t see it.

Especially since our nominee will likely have little or no foreign policy or natl security experience. Is Romney going to tap Martinez, Rubio, Jindal, Haley, etc... He has no foreign policy experience and neither do they. Same with Huckabee, Palin, Daniels, Pawlenty, even Newt has no foreign policy/national security experience.

The VP needs to complement the P. McCain could tap Pali because he had plenty of natl security experience so he didn’t need someone who did. If Romney or Huckabee won in 2008 neither of them would have even considered Palin.

Look at how Obama added Biden, Bush added Cheney, Clinton added Gore, Reagan added Bush. All older folks with foreign policy/national security credentials.

So, I don’t see any of these names ending up as VP. The VP will likely be an older guy who brings the above credentials.

Oh please. Some of those people are too new for us to know much about.

Perry is a super RINO who can be pushed around sometimes to our benefit.

I will not vote for him for anything

"...Mitt, Huck and Newt..."

There's no point in cluttering things up.

Perry’s got too much the accent and mannerisms of W to win nationally, IMO. Some say it’s just Texan, but the intonations and other similarities are uncanny.

Hardly a day goes by that I don’t see Jindal’s name mentioned on a FR thread as a potential candidate for POTUS or VP.

As much as I like Jindal, I don’t see how that can ever happen. Why? ....For the same reason that Birthers want to boot Obama out and toss him under the jail.

Jindal is not a Natural Born Citizen of the US. His parents were citizens of India and in this country on visas when Bobby was born.
