GOP hedges on health care funds
Politico ^ | 2/8/2011 | DAVID NATHER & JAKE SHERMAN

Posted on 02/08/2011 4:26:47 AM PST by tobyhill

House Republicans say they’re all on the same page about wanting to choke off funding for President Barack Obama’s health care law, but in their first real spending bill of 2011, it looks like they’re leaving that priority on the cutting room floor.

As the GOP writes a continuing resolution to fund the government for the rest of the year, it is likely to leave out language that would shut off funding for new mandates and programs under the health care law, according to Republican aides and lawmakers.

They’ll still have a shot at killing health care funding — using an amendment vote on the House floor — but by initially leaving the language out of the main funding bill, Republican leaders risk angering conservatives who think the new majority isn’t being aggressive enough.

“We expect them to swing at the ball every chance they get,” said Mark Meckler, a national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots. Defunding the health care law was “the No. 1 promise” Republicans made in the midterm elections, Meckler said, and if they don’t deliver on it, “they’re going to find themselves in serious trouble with the people who put them in office.”

Groups that are dedicated to repealing the health care law are already framing the spending bill as a missed opportunity.

“If you’re serious about Obamacare, you have to defund it at each and every opportunity” and “stop the fiscal train wreck before it happens,” said Alex Cortes, chairman of DeFundIt.org.

Here it starts. The GOP ran against healthcare, but it was just a campaign tactic. At least John Cornyn was honest when he said he agreed with 95% of Obamacare

I’ll wait for another more credible source. The obuma butt-kissers at the Marxist politico are on record of trying to stir up trouble and divide patriots with lies and propaganda.

In fact, I think politico should be considered on the same level as Storm Front and banned from FR.

It's very simple whether to tell if Politico is just propagandizing or actually reporting, does the CR contain any money that helps implement Obamacare.

The PollyAnna wing of GOP and the Tea Partiers are aghast at the reality of healthcare.

Isn't there a conservative publication or group or website doing daily tracking on this and other congressional issues? There must be. Anybody have links to such a group?

I have a different question - does it matter? Does anyone think Obama will let a Republican-written CR stop him from shifting the funds he needs to keep implementing Obamacare?

I’ll watch and see for now.

Looks like there are going to be another crop of GOP incumbents that get fired next election cycle.

Socilaized Medicine is here to stay....we only have a handful of Conservatives in Congress. The rest of them are the same as Democrats/Progressives and just do whatever will get them re-elected.

Pandering to the dependent Classes NEVER works, and we have four generations of welfare-dependent slugs who've never worked a day in their lives who, unfortunately, are allowed to vote.

When they can vote for handouts by voting for Democrats, and they now are nearly 50% of the voters (legal or not), there is no way to stop this.

I also have my doubts about anything coming form pollutico. All the news that will hurt conservatives should be their motto. They have attributed false statement from conservatives just to stir the pot and create division.
Obviously, de-funding an unconstitutional and expensive law is not only good economics,it’s good politics.

I knew we were screwed when I read that Paul Ryan is now down to only $58 billion in spending cuts. Why even bother? The GOP will vote to raise the debt ceiling in return for token cuts that will change nothing. Same old same old strikes again.

Yep. Any solutions will come from state governments. Washington is too far gone to correct. They will go down still trying to rearrange the deck chairs and leading us to the NWO.

Is this some tactical move required by arcane Congressional rules? If not time to grab the pitchforks...

I think you are right. Its going to be every state for themselves. Or hopefully many states banding together and just rejecting Obamacare and the EPA etc. It appears to already be happening. I think this state movement will soon start to snowball. Anyone who believes the GOP is going to save our country is just naive.

I know. It seems to be a waste of time trying to reform the Federal Government. They are like a Hell Bound Train. The best hope is 34 states.
