According to Politico editors Jim VandeHei and John Harris, Barack Obama is currently "playing the press like a fiddle" by "exploiting some of the most long-standing traits among reporters who cover politics and government — their favoritism for politicians perceived as ideologically centrist." VandeHei and Harris pointed out journalists such as Christiane Amanpour for lauding the President as "Reaganesque." They then oddly portrayed Obama's good press as a new thing. I started reading the article earlier today. I got as far as to the part where they explained there really isn’t any leftist slant in the MSM. I figured then they were lying or clueless, and in neither case did I need any more of their waste-of-time-and-ink editorial in my brain.
I vote: Lying. Like rugs.
They favor Centrists. Like George Bush?

You’ve really got to hope it’s lying, as the alternative is just plain scary. If they are really blind and clueless enough to believe the media is objective, then that is just science fiction level spooky.
Otoh, I used to drop in at DU from time to time. It is an article of faith over there that the MSM is hardcore biased to toward the right. I kid you not. Hopefully Politico is a step up from DU...but who knows?
Indeed, no other conclusion is possible. VandeHei and Harris are either a.) lying or b.) clueless. Or, of course, c.) both.
I'm increasingly inclined to believe the latter. They are willfully lying to us...and they don't think we can tell.
Only in Washington, D.C. would this kind of behavior be accepted.
I’m also getting the sense that Politico is trending harder left. Maybe I’m mistaken, but it seems they used to infuse a modicum of objectivity into their stories. That seems to be gone now. 2010, instead of being a heads up that liberalism is at least temporarily on the wane, seems to have pushed Politico into doubled-down leftist mode. Or else they’re just warming up the bullpen for 2012. Either way, their stories seem to be less and less worth reading. Hmm.
Don't know anything about Harris, but VandeHei was the 2nd looniest leftist on the Washington Post -- behind only the execrable Dana Milbank.
Thus, if Politico ever reflected a modicum of objectivity, they were keeping VandeHei in a padded cell down the hall from the newsroom.
