In the game of megabuck public paychecks, outgoing San Francisco police brass are hauling away the gold.
New city records show that former Police Chief Heather Fong - who retired in 2009 - received a grand total of $528,595 in her final year.
The goodbye check included her final year base pay of $187,875, plus $303,653 for unused vacation, sick and comp time, plus $37,067 in other pay.
Now that she's gone, she's pulling down an annual pension of $229,500 for life.
Former Deputy Chief Charles Keohane, who exited in 2009, received $516,118 in his final year - $325,503 from accrued vacation, sick time and premium pay.
Another retiree, Commander Morris Tabak, clocked out with $425,558 - $173,703 in unused sick, comp and vacation time.
Of course, both Keohane and Tabak get six-figure annual pensions as well.

The Sally Clausen episode did huge collateral political damage to the Higher Education cabal here in Louisiana. They’ve been trying to recover ever since.
Wow that’s a lot of vacation/sick time. Let’s see if here salary were $187K that breaks down to roughly $719 a day. If she got $310,000 +- I guess she was due 431 vacation days. Not sure how long here career was at the SFPD but 86 weeks of vacation sure sounds like a sweet deal to me. If you were given a week for every year of service sure is a good thing she finally retired at 120 years old.

Public sector union contracts have been set up to reward showing up for work with all the vacation and “sick time” due at retirement. Sick time should be used only when there is an illness and implies that an employee is allowed to miss a certain number of days with pay without losing their job. If they show up then shouldn’t get compensated for it and contracts need to be fixed for this gross error. It is institutionalized stealing of taxpayer dollars the way the contracts are written.
There needs to be a cap on retirement benefits derived from these final year payouts.

While in private sector America, many have lost everything....even what was left of their crappy medical benefits....
Simple, base pay only, no overtime, vacation or sick leave.
She's 54 years old, and will be pulling down $114.75 an hour while retired for the rest of her life. Which, with full medical, should be another 25-35 years.

I like that, but then you’d have double dippers who work at one agency for a while and then go to another and get another pension from that one, hence a cap as I suggested to discourage that.
