Doctor's orders: Go to Mexico (because she is an illegal immigrant)
Houston Chronicle ^ | February 6, 2011 | Harvey Rice

GALVESTON — The crushing news came last month as Maria Sanchez was being prepared for surgery to remove a banana-size tumor along her spine that had crept between her vertebrae.

Unable to use her right hand because of the growing tumor, Sanchez, 24, had been at the University of Texas Medical Branch's John Sealy Hospital for six days when, she said, a Spanish-speaking doctor told her she had to leave the hospital immediately because she was an illegal immigrant. The doctor said she should have surgery in Mexico, according to Sanchez.

Sanchez's hospital records state that she was discharged because she was "an undocumented pt (patient) with no insurance." Records show that Sanchez underwent at least one medical procedure and surgery was scheduled before she was dismissed without warning Jan. 12.

After being discharged, Sanchez called her husband, Luis Aguillon, a legal U.S. resident, who arrived at the hospital to find his wife and his mother sitting on her bed crying.

"They treated us like animals, like dogs or something," said Aguillon, 36, an unemployed welder.

Sanchez's abrupt expulsion raises ethical and legal questions about the treatment of low-income patients with life-threatening conditions. A doctor who reviewed Sanchez's medical records for the Houston Chronicle said they showed that UTMB ejected a woman with a potentially fatal condition because she was unable to pay.

To make a long story short. This is the last line in the story:

"Aguillon eventually took his wife to at least five hospitals and three clinics. Aguillon finally moved from Galveston to Houston so he could qualify for care at Ben Taub General Hospital, where she is being treated."

“The doctor said she should have surgery in Mexico,”

But...But...Who’s going to pay for it?

This doctor is awesome!

Anyone who seeks taxpayer-financed health care in this country should be checked for immigration status first!

“Sanchez’s abrupt expulsion raises ethical and legal questions about the treatment of low-income patients with life-threatening conditions”

Well, I have to admit that what she has will kill her eventually. However, it appears to me she has enough time to make arrangements for the Mexican medical system to do what it can for her ...

I think this was a gross violation of medical ethics. The health of the patient is supposed to be the sole priority for a doctor, anything else is of a secondary concern or for other people to worry about...

“They treated us like animals, like dogs or something,” said Aguillon, 36, an unemployed welder.

And you exploit Americans like they are walking ATMs you predatory pig.

The illegal grifters shopped at least five US hospitals and three clinics to extort taxpayers for medical care.....then moved from Galveston to Houston to get free care.

Then a Spanish-speaking doctor told her she had to leave the hospital immediately because she was an illegal immigrant. The doctor said she should go have surgery in Mexico..........

Now the grifters are whining about "abuse"-----look for a lawsuit on the horizon with lawyers supplied by the mexican govt.......striving to reach their goal of draining the US Treasury.

Wrong, the good doctor does not practice in Mexico and he deserves to get paid, you go to Mexico and get sick and see what happens to you. The world is full of sick and dying people, I would rather pay the good doc to treat Americans than a law breaker.

The two predatory pigs exploited Americans like we are walking ATMs then whined that they were "treated like animals, like dogs or something," said the illegal unemployed welder......

There has to be a penalty here----lawbreakers who are committing extortion should be prosecuted.

THEY LEFT A PAPER TRAIL: The illegal grifters shopped at least five US hospitals and three clinics to extort taxpayers for medical care.....then moved from Galveston to Houston to get free care.

What about the ethics of forcing someone to work without being properly and fairly paid for said services? I think the 13th amendment addresses that one.

Arizona souls change its law to say that all illegals in their state will be treated exactl the same as illegals would be treated in Mexico.

And let the illegal aliens criminals go figure things out from there

The "other people" who worry about those things are the hospital's board of directors and they are quite often doctors.

Medical ethics state that the treatment of the patient is paramount. This is a violation of that. Even on the battlefield, the triage system incoporates enemy soldiers as well as friendly ones. Doctors are forbidden by their hippocratic oath from engaging in behaviour that prejudices or harms the patient. I don’t think this is a principle that doctors should be violating...

Yep. That, you can take to the bank.

I read the article but unfortunately for this 'poor abused victim', my give a dam meter is broken. And I can't find my violin either. Though it is on the tiny side so that's prolly why.

Oh... here it is...

I hope I’m Not supposed to feel sorry for this woman because I’m Not.As far as I’m concerned this woman is a thief stealing the health care dollars that should be going toward Americans.

This is one of the reasons the American health care system is in such financial trouble. We are caring for millions of non-National third world patients who are ill before they get here.
