Shell Oil announced Thursday that it's abandoning efforts to drill in icy waters off Alaska’s northern coast this year, a decision that prompted Alaska's senators to accuse the Obama administration of blocking access to large domestic supplies. The company’s plans to drill in Arctic waters have long been under attack from environmental groups. The Interior Department, after the BP oil spill, halted the oil giant’s plan to drill in 2010. Now the company – which is awaiting air quality permits and Interior’s permission – is throwing in the towel on 2011 too. The Houston Chronicle reports:

The oil is still there, eventually the pendulum will swing very conservative, oil will be $200/barrel, and they will be selling the National Parks for nx to nothing to get at the oil;;; and they should.

Alaska has 50 billion in the bank, even with declining production no financial problems for the state for another 12 years or more.

The way Big "O" is screwin the dog; I figure hope and change will happen before Ak runs out of money.

Shell will drill somewhere else. They’ll make their money either way.

It just might not be here, Americans won’t get the jobs, and the US might not get the royalties, the income taxes and all the other taxes that come from a project like this.

We’ll pay top dollar for the oil but someone else will get the benefit. Shell gets theirs either way.

Shell will drill elsewhere because there are other countries that are oil company friendly.
Our’s has become very hostile to business in general.
Thanks dimocrats.
