The Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian Crisis
Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs ^ | February 2nd, 2011 | Dore Gold

• Will the Obama administration's policy toward Egypt be based on a perception that the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood would be extremely dangerous? Or have they taken the position - voiced in parts of the U.S. foreign policy establishment - that the Brotherhood has become moderate and can be talked to? Initial administration reactions indicate that it does not rule out Muslim Brotherhood participation in a future Egyptian coalition government. • Since January 28, the Muslim Brotherhood's involvement has become more prominent, with its support of Mohamed ElBaradei to lead the opposition forces against the government. In the streets of Cairo, Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators disdainfully call people like ElBaradei "donkeys of the revolution" (hamir al-thawra) - to be used and then pushed away - a scenario that sees the Muslim Brotherhood exploit ElBaradei in order to hijack the Egyptian revolution at a later stage. • There has been a great deal of confusion about the Muslim Brotherhood. In the years after it was founded in 1928, it developed a "secret apparatus" that engaged in political terrorism against Egyptian Copts as well as government officials. In December 1948, the Muslim Brotherhood assassinated Egyptian Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Nuqrashi Pasha. • Former Brotherhood Supreme Guide Muhammad Akef declared in 2004 his "complete faith that Islam will invade Europe and America." In 2001, the Muslim Brotherhood's publication in London, Risalat al-Ikhwan, featured at the top of its cover page the slogan: "Our Mission: World Domination." This header was changed after 9/11. • The current Supreme Guide, Muhammad Badi', gave a sermon in September 2010 stating that "the improvement and change that the [Muslim] nation seeks can only be attained through jihad and sacrifice and by raising a jihadi generation that pursues death, just as the enemies pursue life."

When true freedom fighters protested & died in Iran, the Obama admin did not lift a finger to help.

When one of our allies is beset by protestors backed by Islamic militants (the Muslim Brotherhood) the Obama admin is now saying as of yesterday that they (the Muslim Brotherhood) may sit at the legitimate government in Egypt. Makes it clear which way our own “regime” leans & it disgusts and sickens me.

But Mubarak is playing his own cards now. He knows there are millions of secular, Christian, free market, and other Egyptians who absolutely do not want the militants anywhere near the government power. He is now allowing them to counter protest. Essential government services are still being provided and he has promised to step down. He’s taking the wind out of it.

If Mubarak is successful, then he may end this without his military having to bloody its hands (and it would be bloody). If the Obama admin was interested in true American interests, they would support this, and then be in a strong position to move Mubarak trowards true reform after the crisis, while maintaining an Egypt opposing Islamic militancy and remaining peaceful with Israel.

As it is, Obama has set a course to try and abett the Islamic militants who, in the end should they come out on top (God forbid) will scorn him and all of the US because they hate us in any case.

I have a sick feeling that the Mid East is going to be in major turmoil during the last two years of Obama’s regime.

1. Afghanistan is going to be a quagmire. While Bush tended to hold back the troops and let the natives fight it out, Obama made a war with Afghanistan his campaign platform.

2. Bush left Iraq in good shape. I suspect as Obama loses control in other parts of the Mid East, Iraq will get unruly again.

3. We saw how a Leftist President Jimmy Carter mangled Iran diplomacy in the 1970’s. Obama’s DNA (Muslim and Leftist) will make the Iran debacle under Jimmy Carter look good relative to what will happen in Egypt, Israel, and Jordan under Obama.

I agree. Have you noticed how the Leftist MSM is calling “millions of secular, Christian, free market, and other Egyptians who absolutely do not want the militants anywhere near the government power” a bunch of THUGS?

Obama and MSM are engaged in some very dangerous demonization tactics.

Sounds like the Muslim Brotherhood is helping foment the protests/violence in Egypt.

Cairo square chaos intensifies, violence spreads
.........The men who led the defense Wednesday [in Tahir Square] and throughout the night were easily identified. Many of them had cotton padding and grubby bandages dangling from their faces, arms and legs. Many had chunks of rock stuck to their hair and clumps of dust in their beards. A large number had the trimmed beards of Muslim conservatives, a sign of how the Muslim Brotherhood a major role in the fight.
