I forgot to add that most 10 year periods showed an increase of one to three years with most showing less than 3.

So wars had nothing at all to do with it other than during most wars we make greater strides in medicine.

1930-1950 9.5 (20 years)

1950-1970 2.4 (20 years)

1970-2005 7 (35 years)
