When I was a fireman, one of the guys got a burn on his neck from the outer jacket (dacron in those days) on the fire hose, much like a rope burn.

It looked like the hickey from Hell.

The whole bunch of us practically had to swear that was the case on a stack of Bibles to save his marriage!
