The news of Egypt's crackdown on Web access is raising new concerns over a comprehensive cybersecurity bill that critics claim gives the president a "kill switch" for the Internet.
Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) recently indicated they plan to re-introduce their bipartisan legislation, which passed the Senate Homeland Security Committee last year only to get mired in a standoff with Senate Commerce Committee members over which panel should have oversight of civilian cybersecurity.
Civil rights advocates such as the ACLU also raised concerns about the bill, which they claim gives the president the ability to shut down the Web in the event of a catastrophic cyber-attack.
Specifically, observers are concerned the new version of the bill will reportedly not allow for judicial review when the administration shuts down a network under attack.

As Egypt goes offline US gets internet ‘kill switch’ bill ready
Yep...
Notice how thehill article takes the heat off of Obama directly?
I propose a kill bill that cuts off access to TV from any bloviating senator.
Better to write down numeric IP addresses for your favorite sites. In case Gov takes down DNS servers, you might still get addess. (For example, you can access this site by entering 209.157.64.201). This is also handy when there are other network problems.
Of course, gov may simply turn off routing from major network providers. In that case, numeric IP addresses do not help, but maybe some small providers are still operating their own networks.
Some of use are concerned that we will have a kill switch imposed on us, and others are concerned that they won’t be able to kill the internet at will.
The kill bill is under the guise of a KILL SWITCH due to any cyber attacks for supossedly OUR Protection which is a common sense no brainer that the only attack that needs controlled is DOD gov computers which are pn their own anyway. So why would the entire web need shut down?
If it is under the guise of protecting us from let’s say someone hacking our bank accounts the damage is done so how would an Obama kill switch fix anything?
I’m a bit surprised that they aren’t saying the whole internet needs to be shut down because some of it has kiddie porn.
After all it’s for the children, doncha know?
If it saves one child from exploitation, it’s worth it...
One of these days, something big is going to happen or come to light that the media will not be able to cover for him. His Nixon moment is on the horizon. I pray that day comes soon. I pray every day for divine intervention.
From our lip’s to Gods ears. The corruption is so deep from Obama to the media and Chicago. It reminds me of the saying; no one is above the rule of law-but Obama.
The media double standard is so obvious and alive and well.
For instance...

It is “’Beautifully Phrased’ Civil Discourse” when it is democrats calling for death for anyone...
boy that’ll do some damage to the economy, but I guess that’s what they want
Any elected official who votes for or recommends consideration of the killswitch proposal must be driven from office forever, no matter what party they are nominally part of.
Last night Bill OReilly said ‘right wingers’ were nuts for comparing these two.He said some garbage like Obama could kill the net anytime anyway right now.
Google has already started a speak to tweet voicemail service in Egypt that bypasses the cut off ISP’s.
Would be worth looking into about if we had to use it here.
I pray every day for divine intervention.
