They're laying off their IT department where I live.
They're outsourcing the whole thing.

We're talking here about the electrical system for Central New York State.

During the Clinton years: Outsourcing IT to India
During the Bush years: Still outsourcing IT to India
During the Obama years: Lying about outsourcing IT to India and calling the money spent on relocations “stimulus.”

Well, you could complain to your Senator. Oops, you’ve got Up-Chuck and the Hildebeast wannabe.

There’s always your Governor. Oops, Moonbeam Jr.

Sorry to say, I think you folks in NY are as screwed as us out here in Caliph-phony-a.

Yeah. It doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy. As it is we experience a service interruption at least once a month.

They petitioned the PSC for a “delivery of service” rate increase, but out of the other side of their mouth they say, “But your electiricity rates will not go up. (We’ll take it out of your left pocket, not your right.) sd

The company said Monday that the restructuring takes effect in April.

The key word is "restructuring".
In other words these jobs aren't coming back even if the economy improves. - tom

It was true during Y2K and has been proven to be true over the years; when you outsource your critical operations to an overseas firm you take a huge risk. If that company decides to screw you, drop you or “renegotiate” the cost of supporting you then you find out that you have no control over them that can prevent it and nobody local who can pick up those operations. It’s only a matter of time before this scheme bites you in the ass.

Yes, November 9th, 1965. I was in fifth grade at the time, and I remember it very well. My mother was cooking dinner in the kitchen. I remember the sound as our refrigerator motor spun slower and slower, the lights dimmed to red, and the TV picture shrank. That night I went out with a school friend. I remember the moonlight, and the incredible number of stars that were visible.

If another big blackout happens again, I would expect the federal government to try to take over the entire electricity distribution system.

Agree it looks like it’s in the making now.
