Pakistan on Saturday said its legal process should be respected after the U.S. embassy called for the immediate release of an American diplomat who was arrested after he killed two Pakistanis this week.
The American, identified by Pakistani police as Raymond Davis, told a court on Friday he had acted in self-defense after fleeing what he said was a robbery attempt in the eastern city of Lahore on Thursday.
Davis has been remanded in police custody for six days for questioning.
"This matter is sub judice in a court of law and the legal process should be respected," a Pakistani foreign office spokesman said in a statement.
The U.S. embassy said in a statement on Friday only that a staff member of the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore was involved in an incident involving "loss of life."
In a statement on Saturday, the embassy identified him as a U.S. diplomat who it said had been unlawfully detained by authorities in Lahore, where the shooting took place.
It said the diplomat acted in self-defense when confronted by two armed men and had every reason to believe they meant to harm him, and said arresting the diplomat was a violation of international norms and the Vienna Convention.

I can not imagine a two-bit country like Puke-istan ever snubbing its nose up at the US this way under George W Bush, any president other than the Plains Peanut Boy.
This is a troubling, most telling sign in the degree to which US influence has been woefully emasculated courtesy of the misbegotten White House occupant where a two-bit country like Puke-istan stands defiant of the US, international law, as visceral manifestation of O's agenda coming to fruition.
The Bamster is becoming more and more Jimmuh Cahtuh deux every day.
haha!
Our spook killed their spook’s hit men and they’re pissed!
IMHO.....
The dog biting the master’s hand? As long as Pakistan takes our dollars, they are in no position to do this. Stop aid to Pakistan, and Afghanistan. It is money down the drain, supporting the corrupt!
Regardless of how justified the shooting was or not, arresting and charging a diplomat is an act of war, and the pakistanis should back down from this. At worst, the only right they have is to kick him out of the country.
I recall a few years ago in Britain, a middle eastern diplomat was discovered to have been raping underage girls here, he was kicked out, although by rights he should have been spending the rest of his life in prison here getting pounded by a cellmate, ironically named ‘Tiny’, but the principle of diplomatic immunity was quite rightly, viewed as more sacrosanct. Although I do hope that the diplomatic consequences with the nation concerned were embarrassing for his country....
He’s worse than Carter in so many ways.
Barrah is looking more and more like Jimmuh.
He even makes Jimmuh look good.

I agree with Pakistan; it only makes sense that if we want others to follow our laws within our country we should follow other country’s laws when there. {PS — I am *NOT* a fan of ‘diplomatic immunity.’}
