When I live in Delaware I would sometimes take the train to NYC and it took about the same time as driving.
I’m not suggesting anything.
Just stating facts.
I was one of Willie Green’s biggest critics.
SUGGEST you recheck NE corridor figures.
And just where is that electricity going to come from in the copious quantities needed for high speed rail AND electric cars?
EPA won't approve new coal-fired power plants. Nuclear is a huge no no, as is drilling, shale oil, etc. for the wacko liberals that have the ears of too many politicians thanks to MSM coverage of their rallies.
And fools such as the Florida Tourism Board support no oil drilling in the Gulf because people will love paying 200% more on their electricity bills AND they will still flock to the Florida attractions and beaches with $5 a gallon gasoline because they will just "Magically" appear with tons of money to spend.
oh really. suggest you check njtp widening project financing.
generalities are toooo easy.
suggest you check landing fees at phl airport
NJT widening is by tolls (or actually bonds backed by future tolls).
“suggest you check landing fees at phl airport”
What about them?
Ride the rails all you want. The problem is that you expect the rest of us to pay for your misguided nostalgia. Do you realize how subsidized all the rail crap is? All forms of mass transportation are subsidized by the rest of us through the government stealing our money.
So let’s get this straight, Mica is the leader of the airports going to private security and ousting the TSA but then comes out for this? Mr. Mica must have a very big payoff to make to CSX! The headquarters of CSX are in Jacksonville and Mica’s district is in and out of Jacksonville.
Well, then just what about government funding of passenger rail service (ala AMTRAK) don’t you get? If it is viable for a corportation to make a profit then let them have at it. If it is a government funded profit loser (for its entire life) then why?
Thanks for the info.. When it’s not their money they don’t care as much about doing a good job.
I live in Italy right now and I just rode the train here this weekend. It is very expensive and inconvenient. We went to Milan with 2 adults and 2 kids from a bit less than 200 miles away. Our round trip tickets were over $230 total. I could have driven for about 30 bucks, but the problem is parking and traffic. Most of the traffic problems are caused by parking since the streets are clogged with parked cars. It’s funny with a train that your cost is the opposite of a car when you have a family. A family of four in a car cost the same as for one, but on the train, your cost is quadrupled. Still I love trains and riding trains is cool.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to spend money on solving the parking problem instead of on passenger trains?
One of the train companies brags about moving a ton of freight 436 miles with a gallon of fuel. Well that sounds real good doesn’t it? A modern 18 wheeler can move 25 tons of frieght about 7 miles on a gallon of fuel which equates to moving 1 ton of freight 175 miles. True, not as good as a train, but they bring the freight right to your place very fast.. Plus with the train, you still need a truck to bring the freight to your place and it will take a lot longer. My bottom line is that trains are great for bulk products, but not so much for freight or people, especially families. When these trains are built, we will find them to be expensive and inconvenient, mark my words.

Found the article - looks to be one of the only real ‘investments’ that I’ve seen come from this bunch.
In any case, they were already widening the highway, it was just that the feds decided to piggy-back and take some credit for it. The tolls still covered the cost.
I don’t blame the state for taking the money - it is an excellent investment, and the risk is nowhere near what that tunnel to NYC was.
