Obama will go down in history as the president who lost Egypt
Haaretz ^ | January 30, 2011 | Aluf Benn

Jimmy Carter will go down in American history as "the president who lost Iran," which during his term went from being a major strategic ally of the United States to being the revolutionary Islamic Republic. Barack Obama will be remembered as the president who "lost" Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt, and during whose tenure America's alliances in the Middle East crumbled.

The superficial circumstances are similar. In both cases, a United States in financial crisis and after failed wars loses global influence under a leftist president whose good intentions are interpreted abroad as expressions of weakness. The results are reflected in the fall of regimes that were dependent on their relationship with Washington for survival, or in a change in their orientation, as with Ankara.

America's general weakness clearly affects its friends. But unlike Carter, who preached human rights even when it hurt allies, Obama sat on the fence and exercised caution. He neither embraced despised leaders nor evangelized for political freedom, for fear of undermining stability.

Obama began his presidency with trips to Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and in speeches in Ankara and Cairo tried to forge new ties between the United States and the Muslim world. His message to Muslims was "I am one of you," and he backed it by quoting from the Koran. President Hosni Mubarak did not join him on the stage at Cairo University, and Obama did not mention his host. But he did not imitate his hated predecessor, President George W. Bush, with blunt calls for democracy and freedom.

Obama apparently believed the main problem of the Middle East was the Israeli occupation, and focused his policy on demanding the suspension of construction in the settlements....

Re: the poll numbers - Yikes! And that is even discounting polls as I do, weak smile.

All I can figure is that when you exist in a world saturated with propaganda, it is near impossible to acknowledge any reality outside of it... and what a lesson THAT is for our citizens as well, with the majority of our citizens “educated” daily by the left, in schools and in the media.

May God give us strength.

Overlooking your misplaced condescension to a fellow Freeper, I offer just this one poll of many that has confirmed the political aspirations of Egyptians:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/109072/many-turks-iranians-egyptians-link-sharia-justice.aspx

this is proof they’re all brainwashed; and, NOW, Obama, any others will then say the overthrowers are democratic...

I am thinking the history books these kids have been reading the last thirty years aren’t very thorough. Its too bad Mom and Dad didn’t take over and it has to be done here on FR.

Yes, it is wrong. Only an idiot is going to think Egypt will turn into a democracy. The only parties will soon be the Muslim Brotherhood and whoever they permit to be a party. The Democrats have done a great job towards turning the Middle East into a new Caliphate.

When the Middle East embargoes oil to get the Great Satan out of the Middle East, what happens to the American economy?

Zero is going to make Jimmy look good.

I think it is so funny that FREEPERS are spouting off stuff they have no idea what they are talking about. If that is condescending than fine. I have been to Egypt. 99.9 percent of FREEPERS have not. This thead should only be for folks who have actually been to the country. Why should FREEPERS who have never bothered to visit the country of Egypt get a chance to speak about it.

For the same reason that people who admittedly only understand the history that they have been alive for should have a chance to speak about it.

We were in Egypt for 2 weeks about 2 years ago and traveled to several areas of the country. I guess according to some posters I can then say anything I want since I am some sort of expert. I believe (depending on how ruthless Mubarak and the military want to be) Mubarak will suppress the demonstrations by arresting and possibly killing many. However, if they are successful, the demonstrators will eventually be supplanted by mooslim radical morons who will make things worse for civilization in Egypt and elsewhere. Aren’t we lucky to have the feckless leaders that some voters had the gall to elect?

"Obama will go down in history as the president who lost Egypt"

While losing Egypt concerns me, I'm more concerned that he (and his democRAT synchophants in the Senate and House) is the President that will lose the United States.

The reason is because it will turn the countries into a democracy. Is this wrong?

A democracy is when 3 wolves and 2 sheep get to vote on what they're having for dinner. A constitutional republic establishes that you cannot eat sheep.

Guess which one we are (or were)...

Here's the list by 01-01-2013;

Egypt

Saudi Arabia

Jordan

Iraq

Afghanistan

And the Balkans will be back into the blender.

Israel will be vacant due to issues if radiation exposure. The MB will let Iran set up refugee camps there to poison groups or persons they want to go away. Once these guinnea pigs stop dying, they'll resettle Israel.

Obamma won't fire a shot. He'll empty the US Treasury though to assist the new governments.

Obama was reported to be thriving for the reins to shut down the internet and now he disses Egypt for doing so. From the UK to Ireland freedoms, gun rights, are fading. Obama is trying to erode America in a sneaky Hitler fashion called progressive democracy.

I had been screaming that from rooftops since thursday. The first words out of Obamma’s mouth should have been that he was sending a fleet to the area to secure the free passage of the world’s ships thru the Suez Canal.

He’s not losing Egypt. He’s just storing it in the same place as his birth certificate.
