Omar Suleiman assumes position vacant for 30 years after cabinet forced to resign, while Muslim Brotherhood demands transfer of power.
Embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak appointed his intelligence chief Omar Suleiman as his Vice-President in efforts to stem popular rage against his autocratic regime. Egyptian state television reports that Suleiman has already been sworn into office.
The Muslim Brotherhood, the largest opposition movement in Egypt called for Mubarak to relinquish power in a peaceful manner.
Suleiman is the first vice-president of Egypt to be appointed since Mubarak first took power almost thirty years ago.

Now both sons and the rest of the family, including Mubarak's wife are in London.
Omar is now the heir apparent and only will prolong the revolution.
The Muslim Brotherhood is taking a hands of attitude in Egypt but not in Jordan. Look for trouble there.
This genuinely is a popular uprising. Obama needs to see this and get behind it. We need to be on the right side of history.
I was surprised to read in another article that the State Department has not designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
Really? Carter got behind Khomeni in Iran and that turned out very badly for us.
All the Muslim Brotherhood will do is install a Iranian/Syrian type dictatorship of their own, but religious-based.
“Omar Suleiman” should be hot on the griddle at intrade very soon.

You got to be kidding?

What about CUBA, where are the protests in the streets? That dictatorship is 50 years old. It is a psycho police state. Enough!
Down with dictators.
Next is Red China. Enough of the tyranny, enough of the repression.
Iran - rip the shawls off these Mullahs and tell them to get real jobs. Power to the people!
Did this all start with the American removal of Saddam??

You’re asking the US to back another Islamic theology. Obama will do it, because he’s a Muslim, but it won’t be good for us, or Israel.
‘Theology’ should have been ‘Theocracy’.
looks like this play by Mubarak is going down like crap down a drain, civil war split?
There is nothing like that at all in the protests, no "Yankee Go Home" signs anywhere. This is a pure anti-government Egyptian on Egyptian revolution.
You are going to have to make a HELL of a case that Muslim Brotherhood is not extremist (with citations) and is largely secular, before you get any bites on THIS forum.
Bingo! You're right on the money.
It is also interesting to see this plan unfold from the MB.
It is also ironic that Amanutjob and Iran are calling this the beginning of the Islamic takeover. (Madhi)
There is only one domino left, lying in the path of destroying Israel and that is Jordan. They have taken Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, soon to take Iraq and perhaps Saudi Arabia.
If anyone believes that MaObama will even lift a finger to fortify Iraq, or make any military moves to stop this, I have a bridge to sell you......
Ayman Al Zawahiri begs to differ!
