I get so mad at the likes of CNBC and Bloomberg for going along with this charade.
One thing I've been doing is essentially listening to the financial news/commentary/interviews in the middle of the night (although the Mrs isn't real happy about it). It seems to me they tend to be more forthcoming with the information you're looking for than in the light of day.

I often wonder what the late Louis Rukeyser (sp?) would have to say about today’s Fed, bailouts, and the ‘stimulus’. He tried to put the viewer/investor first I always thought.
I miss him. He had a great sense of humor too.
