Freshman Republican Sen. Rand Paul is calling for deep cuts in foreign aid, including eliminating U.S. money for Israel, a plan that has drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans.
The tea party-backed Paul unveiled a budget proposal this week that would slash overall government spending by $500 billion, saying the growing debt requires nothing less. It makes significant cuts in education, energy and defense while eliminating some agencies.

Across the board, fine.
I know it’s nothing new but it still makes me go “wow” when I see the media write a bald faced lie right in the title.
I’m all for saving money, but helping our allies in the fight between life and death is our moral responsibility.
We can and should cut most of our foreign aid (e.g. Bush AIDS plan in Africa is nice, but not really our responsibility). Money to corrupt UN should also be cut.
Aid to Lebanon (=Hezbollah) and Egypt (soon to be Islamic Jihad) should be cut too.
If Paul can’t see the difference, I think he is a dangerous extremist. Does he represent Tea Parties? I hope not.
Though I am very pro-Israel, I agree. Foreign aid, frivolous spending, and many program or agency, such as the National Endowment for the Arts and the Dept. of Education cuts are definitely in order.
Why NOT?.. cut;cut;cut;cut;cut;cut;cut;cut;cut;
I read an interesting article yesterday suggesting the the military base realignment commission left an important consideration out of it’s deliberations. The article suggested that they should also have considered the relative value of all the real estate the military controls, and where it did not affect national security sell some of the high value property at market prices rather than at fire sale prices as some property has been sold in the past. Also, while we may need some bases in Europe, such as Ramstein for evacuating middle east casualties, perhaps there are others that could be closed and returned to financing by European countries.
There is nothing in our founding documents that say; The king shall tax its citizens and send their treasure to foreign kings.
All foreign aid must end.
Just like his Daddy! He has gone so far to the Right, he came back out on the Left.
Fortress Americana! (Or bust)
Cut em all - the USA is broke. The majority (70%+) of American Jews, 50% of (Kennedy) Catholics, 90% of African Americans and others voted to bankrupt and DESTROY America in 2008.
Cut em ALL.
Does he represent Tea Parties? I hope not.On this issue he obviously represents his father.
I still think he's a net plus for us in the Senate -- potentially a big plus in fact -- but because of his blindness on the subject of Israel he would never be my choice for President.
Fine by me...include the UN,too.
The Circular Firing squad is at it again! (The Paulyp crowd advocating intestinal growth again.)
No more foreign welfare, I don’t care who the recipient is.
With a deficit of $1.5 trillion a year, it’s outrageous to even consider sending $1 overseas.
Dangerous extremist? You sound like Rachel Maddow.
Cutting all foreign aid is okay with me, as long as we don’t let Israel down.
In fact, it’s a great idea.
“Does he represent Tea Parties? I hope not.”
Yes he does. He is talking about ALL foreign aid I say WONDERFUL we are broke. Everyone wants programs cut until it comes to something they favor. As another pointed out we are not really helping them anyway if we give aid to their enemies at the same time as we give it to them.
They don’t need our money their economy is doing better then ours and they are a nuclear power. They need our friendship but the biggest thing everyone just talks about day after day is how broke we really are so it’s time to stop robbing American’s to redistribute to the world.

US Aid to Israel Not Worth the Real Cost, Researcher Says
You would think that would go without saying...common sense isn’t common.
Across the board, yes, maybe.
Although, much of what we call “foreign aid” is direct or indirect bribe money, and its one way you avoid having a worse (and more expensive) outcome.
If Rand Paul were president he’d find that he needed this tool in his tool kit.
