Just exactly what is the undocumented kenyan doing about this situation?

F***ing up. That's what happens when amateurs get put in power. You may like Sarah Palin just fine, but she's an amateur, too.

Someone earlier said ElBaradei is simply a stooge who will be killed at the appropriate time.

It could lead to war with Israel. It could lead to gas shortages and exploding commodity prices, there are so many potentially bad outcomes. This is scary.

And I don't expect it to end in Egypt...once Egypt falls watch out. Anyone know what the Saudis are up to? Are things quiet in the kingdom today?

Your analysis is certainly sound. America has no business backing dictators, especially to the extent we have backed Mubarak. We may be witnessing the beginning of Egypt’s end.

We all understand that....I just wondered what your stance was on Islamic radicals taking over Egypt.

Israel will have to react, could be bad.

I also think, as I’ve said before, that I don’t necessarily think the bulk of these rioters are necessarily part of the Muslim Brotherhood, though I’ve no doubt the MB is running the show.

Of course not. Most of the people who protested the Czar were not Bolsheviks, most of the people who protested against the Weimar Republic were not Nazis, most of the people who protested against the Shah were not hardcore Islamics. But in the end, the ones who take advantage are the ones who are most ruthless and organized.

That R9 person absolutely hates Sarah Palin and NEVER misses a chance to put her down. Although I dunno, we got Obamer in charge now and I hardly think HE’s any paragon of foreign policy expertise.

Maybe the R stands for ROVE.

Wrong.

I guess you haven't been paying attention to all the Christians being killed in Egypt recently.

Why are we paying Mubarak?

So then, what's your alternative...keeping in mind we live in the real world.

Good idea! Thanks for the ping. Looks like things are heating up big time. Sounds like Elbaradei wants to take Mubarak’s place. El Baradei would probably be a nightmare since he is the one that sat around while Iran,Pakistan and North Korea got the bomb or are working on one. I have never trusted elBaradei..he is as anti american as they come.

And the first people the hardliners polish off are the poor fools who were out there legitimately protesting.

It happened in every one of the cases you mentioned.

I read Elbareidi is under “house arrest”.

Whatever that means.

I was but a foetus in the womb when everything happened in Iran. I don’t want to see this happen, but I’m interested to see where it goes.

This is the growth of radical islam! Fueled by corrupt officials who have pocketed all the aid we have given them and empoverised the people.

Once the radicals take over things will get worse for all the people.

We save aid money and open new markets for our food crops.

The middle east needs to be in flames so theu are incapable of growing and thriving.

It is irrelevant that Mubarak is a despot. What is likely to emerge is a regime that actively hates the US as the leader of the west against Islam. I have grave reservations about the ‘people just want to be free’ mantra. Individuals want to be free to do a lot of things, get revenge on rival groups, loaf, express the rage and aggression they have had to sit on for years by looting and destroying, loaf, demand to be taken care of.There are a large number of vicious and worthless individuals in every society and when the society is inclined to authoritarian forms these types will act out when the strong hand of authority is removed.
This wave of street riot cum revolution is much likelier to end as the French and Russian revolutions did than ours.

“Our assessment is that the Egyptian government is stable and is looking for ways to respond to the legitimate needs and interests of the Egyptian people,”

Hillary Clinton making sure nobody will have take seriously anything she says ever again.
