LAPD Chief Charles Beck says Jeffrey Stenroos lied about the shooting that shut down 9 schools.
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) The LAUSD police officer who said he was shot and wounded in a confrontation with an armed suspect outside a Woodland Hills high school is under arrest Thursday night, accused of making up the whole story, according to LAPD Chief Charles Beck.
LAPD detectives arrested Officer Jeffrey Stenroos on one felony count of filing a false police report.
On January 19, 2011, the LAPD responded to and launched an extensive investigation after Officer Stenroos reported a burglary suspect attempted to murder him by shooting him in the chest while he was on patrol near El Camino High School in the San Fernando Valley.
The police response was massive. The incident prompted a manhunt that included 350 police and deputies, and the lockdown of nine different schools in the area.
Residents were unable to return to their homes and more than 9,000 LAUSD students were locked in the classrooms for hours without access to food or bathrooms.
After the incident, Stenroos was said to have been saved by his bullet-proof vest. Stenroos reportedly had a large bruise on his left chest that was supposedly caused by an assailant's bullet.
Beck would not comment on the Stenroos' injury.
According to Chief Beck, "the current state of the investigation refutes Stenroos initial account of the incident and we are now certain that there is no outstanding suspect in this shooting."
Beck added that detectives worked tirelessly to ensure the case was thoroughly investigated and the community was never at risk.
Detectives followed up on more than 350 clues, conducted a number of neighborhood canvasses, made hundreds of community contacts and distributed countless Community Alert Notices in hopes of gathering any valuable leads in the case.
While I understand the media and the publics intense interest in this investigation, and the desire for answers to the many questions that will be asked with this new development of the Officers arrest, I cannot provide more detailed information at this time.
In the meantime, Los Angeles Police Protective League president released a statement calling Stenroos, "an embarrassment to law enforcement."

LOL!
There was no cop shooter, except for the cop shooting himself...
If he shot himself there would be residue on the vest not present from a shot fired from a greater distance, such as by the imaginary burglar. Can’t hide from standard gunshot forensics today.
Did this guy hose up and shoot himself THEN cook up the story to try to hide his stupidity, or vice versa?
What a loon.
I hope he heals up soon so he can start paying back the cost of the massive response. =8-O
As a union school employee it will easily be a year or more before he can be fired, if that’s the route they choose, and they’ll probably settle for resignation with a one-year severance.
They reported he had a bruise on his ten ring...
This guy is done...I also heard he was involved with 1 or 2 women teachers at this school near where the shooting occurred.
Can’t shame someone like that out, eh?
That the least of this guys worries.
Government Synthetic Rubber?
Oh, gunshot residue.
GSR. I thought it stood for ‘get some recoil!’
When they place him on paid administrative leave he won't need to show his face outside his home.
Wanna Bet? They'll draw out the "investigation" long enough for everyone to forget about it, and then settle somehow, but he'll be paid the entire time.

The story reeked from the beginning.
Maybe in your dreams...lol
This guy is screwed...
Where you getting this?
This guy is toast. Even the police protective league spit on him in a statement, calling him disgusting. This whole event was just too big and embarrassing to ignore.
I thought something was up when the policed asked for if any had seen what the officer was doing before the shooting on local radio.
My dreams? I never said I approved of it. I am predicting what will happen in that insane world called the LAUSD.
I have an idea. Why don't you look into the history of school union employees who have misbehaved, broken the law and committed criminal actions and then come back and discuss it?
You bet.
They’re going to make brutal example of this guy.
