American kids would not have behaved that way 40 years ago,
I doubt Asian families would permit
that type of unruly
and disrespectful acting out.
This explicit detail is typical of the book-except when it comes to specifics about his origins and schooling, etc.
Then it all gets gauzy.
He just had to write about showing the Customs Agent his passport proving that he was an American.
Like he remembers that specific incident 40 years later .
And did the 10 yr old even know
what kind of passport he held ?
On page 22, Soetero throws in a passage that he weighed
“ 8 pounds, two ounces “ at birth.
Somebody apparently weighed him at birth .
The scale would have to be a sensitive medical type normally used for newborns and infants to record ounces.
Did he read his weight off the birth certificate he discovered on page 26 ?
He described his American passport , but, never said he found an American birth certificate.
Or perhaps he really has no idea of the particulars of his birth circumstances
and he made up his birth weight
as part of the smoke screen .
