Before you post, maybe you should push the “Think first” button. If you recall, Christ ended the practice with a somewhat famous line about “He who is without sin...”. You think that might have been his way of saying “Stop it”?
Let’s be very clear: God hates sin. And when he so chooses the wrath to be poured out will be horrible, unimaginable, and inescapable.
When God called for stoning in the OT, it was not a capricious act. But rather it was a call for punishment as an indication of how much he hates sin.
Enter Christ. He is the fulfillment of the old law. His death absorbs all the wrath meant for those who are His. He took the “stoning” that we all deserve. He paid our price.
Let’s not wince at OT references to horrible punishments, rather let the old references remind us that we ALL deserve a stoning - at least - for our caviler actions and attitudes toward a righteous God.
But with Christ we can look to God as Abba (father) and not be afraid when His patience comes to an end...
