WASHINGTON – The next California wilderness fights will stretch from the desert to the Delta, in a dicey new political environment.
This week, the state's two Democratic senators set the stage by introducing wilderness-related bills. Their prospects are unclear, but their ambitions are undeniable.
"I've still got 1 million acres to go," Sen. Barbara Boxer said of her aspirations Wednesday.

Let her have it. If those idiots were stupid enough to send her back they deserve what they get. The only folks that visit wilderness on the border are the illegals, anyhow.
This kind of stuff is a perfect reason for the state legislature to meet only every six months. They have nothing to do but collect their pay checks make up this type of stuff. With the debt the state has, they don’t need any more bills, they all cost money and no way to pay for it.
Besides, bills like this are used to force people to live in the city where they can be controlled and taxed.
Big Government over-reaching, again.
This is Congress, not the state legislature.
They’re not talking about wilderness on the border, hundreds of miles from it.
I agree with the idea of a part-time legislature, but this bill is by Califorina’s two US Senators, Boxer and Feinstein.

You forgot the pot growers who have taken over large areas of California’s national parks.
This land grab stuff, at both the state and federal levels, has got to stop. It’s time for a new Homestead Act.
We’ve got a 1.5 trillion deficit yet we can’t sell off some of the millions of acres and other property the gov’t owns????

Sorry, I can tell by your address the probable area they’re talking. While working at Ft Irwin last year for 10 weeks I read a book about old mines in Panamint Valley. I’m sure they want to keep any people out of the desert as much as possible because they can’t watch them.
Another great gold heist? Read about Feinstein in the 1994 Desert Wilderness Protection Act. They gave away Fort Knox.

True. The BLM has been blocking access to many old mines in the Mojave Desert and in the Panamint Range. They would love to have the whole area declared “Wilderness” to keep people out.
A few years back, Boxer proposed to expand wilderness areas in my county right up to people’s backyards. She wants to eliminate the regular forest service buffer that exists between settled communities and the existing wilderness. This is criminal because you can’t use machinery in a wilderness. Few could use the land for recreation. It would be off limits for use by our local ranches for grazing. People couldn’t get mining equipment to their mines. We couldn’t manage the forests and our timber economy would be further devastated. You couldn’t get a fire truck in there to fight fires, or equipment to thin the forest fuels to protect local communities.
As it is, we are already facing the specter of two large new national monuments in one part of the County. We are already 63% owned by the government, how are we supposed to maintain a tax base to run government functions?
Feinstein’s bill would block major wind and solar energy projects planned in the proposed monument region.
Another great gold heist? Read about Feinstein’s involvement in the 1994 Desert Wilderness Protection Act. They gave away Fort Knox to friends of Di Fi as I recall.
