If they’re doing proficiency flying, just to stay current... Who cares if it is around the field or point to point and back? Variety in terrain, flight plans, and airports would seem to be a good thing and keep them on their toes. You’re right though, I could see how it could be abused. But I could also see how it would be beneficial to the ANG (more experienced pilots).
If the guy abused it, the other zoomies will nail him for it, so as not to screw up their own scams.
I have great faith in fighter pilots. They are simple creatures given complex tasks, and they do great things when war rages.
I wouldn't leave one alone with my ugly daughter, though.

What? He landed the F-16 in his relatives' back yard?
This is a hallowed tradition and the way pilots have kept sharp since 1905. Wedding in St. Louis? A low pressure light will come on. You land in St. Louis. Take a cab to the wedding. You come back the next day, and everything checked out. Fly back home. The wedding time is not logged. The flying time is logged. Any questions?
Did you know that a golf bag will fit in the back seat of a T-33? Did you also know that John McCain was one of the worst pilots the Navy ever released from flight school over the objections of his instructors ... who of course were never heard from again ... and were last seen refurbing mess kits in 29 Palms? That he got lost many times ... over the Chesapeake? That if you total up the aircraft he destroyed, he could well be Hanoi's last ace?
there is no excuse for flying OUR jets for private outings.....not for senators and not for military pilots....
there are lowly infantry guys in Iraq and Afghanistan away from family and friends that don't come near the compensation that officers get.....like night and day....starting with accomodations, pensions, priviledges, etc....so I have NO sympathy for this cheater....
