Rep. Michele Bachmann, founder of the Tea Party caucus in the new Congress, gave more than a response to President Obamas State of the Union speech Tuesday night. She gave us a look at the new political woman in Washington.
Some of the old Republican bulls looked as if they were suffering a bad bout of indigestion. Shes treading on old toes. She acquitted herself with poise and power, and thats whats scary to the party establishment.
When Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann got together during the midterm election campaigns, they were dismissed by certain politicians and pundits as Thelma and Louise, as real-life stand-ins for the two innocent housewives whose bucolic romp across America became a killing spree. But theres more than just Mrs. Bachmann in the new wave of tough women in town. This new generation of conservative politicas - having caught, skinned and eviscerated liberal feminism as if it were one of Palins Alaskan salmon - is transforming the very meaning of a womens movement, observes Kay S. Hymowitz in City Journal. Her point is that men and women, liberals and even some conservatives, have fallen into panic mode at the arrival of Tea Party women. The male politicians long for the more modest ladies, led by Phyllis Schlafly, who defeated the Equal Rights Amendment but did it the old-fashioned, feminine way: presenting homemade jelly and jam to state legislators.
Not so long ago, Hillary Rodham Clinton was the Lady MacBeth of the nightmares of men who were afraid she was on her way back to the White House. The men relaxed when it became clear that she was only on her way to Foggy Bottom to become secretary of state....

Now, that’s what I call tough love...
LOL
Oh yeah. Count me among these kind of Republican women. Great read.
good piece. However, Schlafly was and is a pit bull. And she stood very, very alone at times.
Not conservative male tea party members.
There's a reason conservative men like Palin and Bachmann, and it has noting to do with looks. We like people that stand up for what they believe--and it doesn't matter if it is a man or woman.
Some liberal women today were bad-mouthing Bachmann’s speech and asking sarcastically what kind of people support Bachmann and Palin.
I answered, “Well, they used to be called feminists.”
I could see a President Palin having Mrs. Bachmann in her cabinet or staff. I hope she asks former Congressman Duncan Hunter to serve as Secretary of the Army, ICE director or something similar. Putting Sheriff Joe in charge of Homeland Security would cause a stampede towards the border akin to Ike’s operation in the early 1950’s.
The word “feminism” has no positive attributes, having been completely defined by the left. Conjures up mental images of women outraged at being treated as sex objects who themselves are in absolutely no danger of such treatment.

BRAVO!!!
Well, you are certainly an optimist regarding your fave, I’ll give you that
These ladies stand tall in contrast to many males who act like they have “Low T”.
She took a lot of crap and never complained and she never backed down. She was once spat upon by a feminist as she sat in a make-up chair before a television appearance. A more dignified lady you will never meet.
Those liberal women are so afraid and so very, very jealous of strong, intelligent beautiful women like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman!

I love that lineup.
They are the only conservatives with any spine.
Bachmann also possesses speaking skills equal to or better than most, and might make a formidable candidate, given her experience in Washington. In addition, she seems to know how to stay on point, avoid rambling and give concise answers to questions, thereby making it more difficult for those who would misquote her. That is a skill in itself.
Ryan and Bachmann are among the most articulate spokesmen for liberty that the Republicans can field if they wish to return the nation to its founding principles.
