Edison’s original bulb still works. He designed it so the filament could be changed easily.
Its one thing if people voluntarily want to do this kind of stuff, it’s another if it gets mandated.
Personally the solar cooker oven ideas are great for an emergency situation and I have one made up for that scenario. But I don’t use it in my daily cooking. I will if it’s a SHTF scenario.
Where did you go to high school? I went to West Hardin right as it was transitioning from a high school to a middle school and ended up graduating from Central Hardin. They have since added another high school (John Hardin) so that you know have E-Town High and Fort Knox High as the two independents and North, Central, and John Hardin with the Hardin County School District and they are looking at possibly putting in another high school, especially if the rumors about BRAC 2012 come true.
Started at FK, dad retired, finished the last year-and-a-half at E-town.
I’ve been in that store many times. My uncle and I completely rewired a house I bought for my mom 3 years ago. It started out as a service replacement project, and then when the two of us got a good look at the cloth Romex in teh boxes, it turned into a complete re-wire. Took us a week. Good times. Visited your store a *lot* on that project.
Here you can order them. Click the link and either select the Industrial A-19 or the Decade bulb.

There are three wires (two hot and one neutral) that come out of the fuse box and run up into the attic. The hots run down each side of the attic, while the neutral runs down the center. All of the lights and receptacles in the house run up into the attic and attach to these lines.
They bought everything they needed to rewire it, but it is going to be a several week process. One thing they are going to have problems with is the fact that the walls are made of plaster instead of drywall. They can't cut through it without causing severe damage, so one will be down in the house with a fishtape while the other is up in the attic with a spool of Romex, slipping it through the holes from the old wire.
Was it knob and tube? That’s what I expect, from your description.
Both my uncle and I are good practical hands-on electricians, he better than I, and I used to own a good share of a commercial MEP design firm, so I know the theoretical / code side as well. And your description is about how we worked - one would be up in the attic doing stuff, one down in the house, when you needed the other to do something, you’d just yell. It was pretty awesome, there wasn’t a lot of talking needed, other than when actually making a pull, we’d both just go do stuff that needed doing, and kept doing it until we were done.
It is all I can do to try and prevent some of these folks from either electrocuting themselves (trying to wire up 220 without turning off the breaker first...shudder) or burning their house down (Are you sure this 14/2 won't work on my range?).
