WASHINGTON — President Obama once again brought up the issue of gays in the military during his annual State of the Union address tonight.
Last year, he called for repeal of the federal law barring openly gay people from serving. This year, just a month after having signed a bill to repeal that law, the president urged universities which have barred military recruiters over the gay ban now allow recruiters back on campus.
“Our troops come from every corner of this country – they are black, white, Latino, Asian and Native American. They are Christian and Hindu, Jewish and Muslim. And, yes, we know that some of them are gay. Starting this year, no American will be forbidden from serving the country they love because of who they love.”

Not too much applause for the gay stuff tonight. Spreading out the crowd diluted what would have been a more TV receptive moment.
The silver lining in all of this is discovery.
If an opposite policy were in place, which aggressively sought to identify and remove gay service members for removal, it would understandably take at least a decade if not more to find those service members who are in violation of the UCMJ and process them out.
Obama and his policies are apparently cutting through that traditional discovery process almost instantly. It’s going to be really amusing to see the look on the faces of those who ASSUME that these new policies will remain in effect indefinitely. (hehe)
I think that’s certainly worth “tolerating” them in the military ranks for another year or two.

Gay this and gay that. Gay this, and gay that. I sure am glad this nation has no larger problems that ensuring that two buck privates can, ah, buck privates, so to speak.
