A federal judge today sentenced former city councilor and civil rights crusader Charles Chuck Turner to three years in jail for pocketing a $1,000 bribe while in office and then lying about it to the FBI.
U.S. District Court Judge Douglas P. Woodlock sentenced Turner to 36 months this afternoon.
The Harvard-educated Turner, 70, of Roxbury, was facing up to 35 years in the slammer for taking a wad of cash from Boston businessman Ron Wilburn during a 2007 preachers handshake in Turners district office. Wilburn claimed to be seeking political muscle to obtain a liquor license for a proposed nightclub in Roxbury, but was videotaping the exchange as an undercover operative for the FBI.

Not nearly long enough.

It must be all in who you know because I could bet much bigger things are going on with our politicians than $1000 bribe.
This guy got porn off the Net and claimed it was US soldiers raping Iraqis. The Boston Globe published it.

But Tierney’s wife gets 30 days for tax evasion, money laundering, internet gambling.........
And her husband, “unknowing” of her criminal activites is reelected.
But Chuckie gets 3 years for a few thou........
Stand up, Chuck!
I remember. The only reason he got off so easy was...well, the same reason Diane Wilkerson got off so easy.
My all time favorite.
Imagine taking $1,000 for a liquor license! Any child knows it's supposed to be $3,500 up front, and $3,500 in 6 weeks!
$1,000? What are talking here, a Sanitation Department gig? It is people like Chuck who are cheapening MA's reputation. Put him away before he ruins everything!
“don’t kill the job, Chuck...”
Great Chuck Turner moment—why he’s called SuperFly. Chuck explains he was rushing so fast to avoid “more harrassment by the police” (corrects himself) “by the PRESS that apparently...from what they say..I didn’t...zip up...my pants.”
