Cantor invites Pelosi to be his seatmate at president's address By Russell Berman - 01/25/11 11:52 AM ET
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) invited Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to sit next to him at the State of the Union address, just hours after he criticized her for continuing to drive the ideological agenda instead of reaching across the aisle.
The invitation was made Monday evening through staffers for the two leaders, Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring said. Spokesmen for the former Speaker did not return an immediate request for comment.
The pairing would be among the more high-profile for an event that has in recent days been compared to a school dance, as lawmakers scurry to find cross-party seatmates for the presidents annual address. Instead of the traditional party-line seating arrangement, dozens of members have planned to sit with lawmakers from the other party as a symbol of renewed civility.
The Cantor-Pelosi duo could be awkward, however. The new GOP majority leader on Monday singled out Pelosi for unprompted criticism while he praised her chief deputy, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Cantor and Hoyer were scheduled to have lunch Tuesday, and Cantor noted that while he and Hoyer met throughout the last Congress, he and Pelosi did not.
I would say that is in stark contrast to the now-minority leader, Cantor said. I would love to have the opportunity for her to engage in some type of working relationship so that we can actually deliver results. Thus far it seems she is continuing to drive the ideological agenda just the same as she did over the last four years.
As far back as June 2009, Cantor complained that then-Speaker Pelosi refused to meet with him.
Pelosis office said Monday she met regularly with her GOP counterpart, new Speaker John Boehner (Ohio).
It's important to set the record straight, spokesman Nadeam Elshami said. The fact is, Leader Pelosi has met with Speaker Boehner on numerous occasions both as Speaker and since he became Speaker, and offered to hold regular meetings. Democrats remain committed to working with Republicans to create jobs, strength the middle class and reduce the deficit."
I cannot even describe the nausea I am feeling over this. Best to get a list of the “seatmate” Republicans ...they are going to be on their way out.
Amen for a few Republican congress critters with strength & convictions. Reps Paul Brown (R) & Lynn Westmoreland R) are EXACTLY correct in calling out this demoRAT charade to soften & stifle any Repubs from voicing any dissent against the RAT bastard socialist commie-pig 0b0z0.....piss be upon him!
We´ve had it.
God Bless the memory of The United States.
Bunch of dumbasses!
LOLOL.........how diabolical........I love it.
Great analogy and right on, headstamp 2.
Maybe he had a big serving of beans and sauerkraut with a cole slaw topper for lunch today. He can put some sardines and garlic in his pockets, too.
...and then will swap spit. At the end they will all stand holding hands singing “We are the world”. If that don’t gag a maggot than nothing will!
Yuk!
I feel sick-doesn’t anyone in DC have any courage or testosterone? Well if he is going to sit next to her I suggest he ask her what evidence she saw showing Obama was an NBC. Yeah like he’s got the guts to do it...when I was a kid we called people like him pussies. The GOP hasn’t learned a darn thing.
I wonder if she will take her teeth out ?
Conservatives want Leadership....not Bi-Partisianship
The GOP just does not get it. Cantor just another Liberal RINO
