So this is an RFI (Request For information...??)
The are looking for a supplier for what amounts to 14 Million servings of a 1200 calorie civilian MRI (Meal, Ready to Eat).
Do I read that correctly?
Probably not a bad idea for relieving a major civilian refugee camp, at least for some period of time. If you can drop supplies in to an established camp in case of a major disaster, so much the better, at least for those who have no other option besides that refugee camp.
This kind of knowledge is what drives the so-called “preppers” who have been building a base of self sufficiency for a while. Even a home garden is a good step toward providing some of your own food, and the knowledge that civilian MREs are what probably face you if you have no other choice but to evacuate you and your family ought to be enough to convince you to prepare to stand alone, at least for a reasonable period of time.
OBTW, one of the benchmark items I have watched for some time is the price of a 50 pound bag of long grain white rice, US grown in either Texas or Louisiana. Through last Fall the price of that 50 pound bag was stable at around $16.00. Last week that same bag is selling for over $20; a 25% price increase in just one year. Anyone who says there is no inflation is not well informed...plan accordingly.
What are the brand names of US grown rice?
