Who's your seat buddy? Congress pairs off for State of the Union unity display
The Hill ^ | 1/22/2011 | Jordy Yager

Dozens of lawmakers are getting a second dose of high school as they venture across the aisle and ask colleagues to sit with them for President Obama’s State of the Union address next week.

<----> snip <---->

The bipartisan gesture carries a serious tone for nearly all who have pledged to do away with the typical seating arrangement, which is not assigned but generally gets divided by party. But the humor of asking one of their fellow lawmakers to attend the event as their “date” has not escaped members.

IMO the whole (dim) idea is to dilute the appearance of the huge repub majority.

Starting 24 hours before the event, every republican shall be placed on a diet restricted to beans, beer, cabbage, boiled eggs, and chocolate milk.

LOL! That would create quite a stench!

LOL Alinsky did that in Chicago at the opera! Tanked his followers up on beans etc, bought opera tickets, and had these “outsiders” sitting next to the wives of the people he was shaking down!

As Algor said, I should have let it rip...

The GOP leadership has been missing in action. They either can't figure out how to respond to the Democrat trap or they agree with it. It will be interesting how many tea party new members fall into the Democrat web. It will also be useful to see if Democrat peer pressure in a mixed audience results in more standing and cheering for Obama than would otherwise be the case.

The only thing I’m looking forward to on Tuesday night is hearing Paul Ryan give the Republican rebuttal. I love to hear him talk budgets & spending. Hope he has 10 or so minutes chock full of facts and figures.

Last year Gov of VA wasn’t bad but Jindal the year before was HORRIBLE.

I know Paul Ryan will turn in a fantastic performance.

And to give standing applause to every queezy distasteful comment made by obbie. How would it look for one guy to be sitting and one standing in cheer? Why it would be uncivil.

It's called pig lipstick applied by civility.

I’m hoping for a fist fight between Michele Bachmann and Nancy Pelosi.

The damned fools haven’t realized that this is yet another ploy by the Rats to dilute GOP numbers and cover up the extent of the true extent of their November losses.

All for the show cause it will not change anything. The sheer amount of idiocy displayed these days by politicians is utterly mind-numbing. =.=

So far almost 60 members of Congress are taking part in the bipartisan mixer, but one Senator who has signed on to idea still doesn’t have a date:

I completely agree.

Email and call our elected reps and tell them they need to present a united front -

Why would they even believe that an idea suggested by a Dem would benefit them in any way?

I generally like Boehner but this is insane. He said something about ‘there are no assigned seats’ or words to that effect.

How about words like UNITED? TOGETHER? IN AGREEMENT?

This is not going to turn out well.

"The bipartisan gesture"

The use of Republicans as "Human Shields" is depressing....simply a big-time photo-op for The Messiah to claim he's "The Great Unifier.....bringing people together"...

There's so many RINO's amongst the current so-called Republicans that they may as well sit amongst those that they vote with......

Hmmm; who WILL sit w/Barney. . .

Am wondering too; given what has been written (and posted) per Rand Paul and Al Franken. Will they be 'seat buddies' too?) Did they get to pick seat mate - and if so; like in those, 'grade school sports' (of yesteryear); what about those who did not get picked?

And then there is Demrat Cohen, who has led his own charge against all Repubs with his assignment of 'nazi moniker'. What Repub must suffer his closeness?

Most historic win of Congressional Repubs and they will stand, not in UNITY; but rather, divided amongst our enemy opposition. (And make no mistake; they ARE our enemy. And we are theirs.)

After weeks of being called Hitler acolytes, Goebbles like, and other vile disgusting names the left now wants to sit with those same republicans.

And the jackass republicans are going to fall for that farce?
