Legal experts following one of the most riveting murder trials in Buffalo history express uniform disapproval of Hassan's attempt to serve as his own lawyer and showing contempt for his trial by stalking out of court.
Hassan, also known as "Mo," is charged with stabbing and beheading his wife, Aasiya, on Feb. 12, 2009, in the headquarters of their Bridges television station in Orchard Park.
So far, Sedita said, prosecutors have received notice only that Hassan plans to pursue a "battered spouse" justification defense, essentially stating that as a long-abused husband, he feared for his life and the only way he believed he could save himself was to kill his wife.
Other seasoned defense lawyers have said that Hassan would have been better off pursuing an "extreme emotional disturbance" defense, basically arguing that, suffering under extreme psychological stress, he committed the crime in the heat of the moment and was not guilty of premeditated murder, but a lesser charge like manslaughter.
Such a defendant, however, still would be guilty of a crime, albeit a lesser one that likely would carry a lighter sentence.
Hassan, however, has said he believes he can walk out of court a free man if he can tell the jury about the "torture" and "humiliation" he says he endured at the hands of his wife.

Let me guess what constituted torture and humiliation in his mind...
She burned the toast once or twice.
She "had a headache" one too many times.
She attacked his fist with her head.
She refused to walk three steps behind him in public.
She spoke when she wasn't spoken to.
She once said "hello" to a man who was not a relative.
And so on....
He's a completely normal muslim. Of course, that doesn't mean he's human.
Every woman thinking of dating or marrying a moose limb should read this story.
When a Christian, Jew, Hindu, Budist generally do not behead their spouse.
That kind of behavior seems reserved for moosies.
I've got to wondering, why isn't this trial the next OJ trial. It has everything, brutal murder, sex, marriage, Muslims, a cable tv network founded to improve the image of Muslims by the murderer. It has wacky courtroom and legal antics, the murderer has fired defense attorney after defense attorney and is attempting fire his current trial attorney. And there's plenty of room for legal speculation.
Why no coverage? The media's desire to protect the American People from slipping into rampant Islamophobia. Our betters just want us to think the right thoughts, directed of course, by their own caring and concerned hands. If we saw this trial, we may think the wrong thoughts.

Muzzammil Hassan ...has parted ways with three previous lawyers.
Aasiya Zubair Hassan was not the only woman who charged Hassan with abuse. So did his two previous wives.
Interesting that beheading his wife only qualifies as second degree homocide.
Liberals , lesbians, and other progressives should fear Islamic laws and Muslims in general.
But they remain blind to the reality.
