State Senator Richard Alloway, R-33, recently announced his appointment to the Pennsylvania Senates Judiciary Committee for the 2011-12 legislative session.
Alloway, still in his first term serving Adams and parts of Franklin counties, was appointed Jan. 19 by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, a Republican from Jefferson County. Alloway said that he is optimistic about being appointed as a freshman legislator.
This is a big deal, Alloway said Thursday afternoon. The Judiciary Committee is a pretty powerful committee.
In his press release sent to the Times on Tuesday, Alloway said that the Judiciary Committee is one of the most important bodies in the Senate because of the broad subject matter it considers, including civil, criminal and family law, prisons, corrections and other issues affecting Pennsylvanias judicial system.
Alloway said that his main focus as a newly-appointed member of the committee is the Castle Doctrine bill, which deals with citizens rights to defend themselves.
If youre in your home, you have Castle Doctrine protections, Alloway said. But my bill expands a persons right to defend themself to any place that person has a legal right to be, like a public swimming pool or a shopping mall.
Despite a 45-4 vote of approval from the Senate, Alloways bill was vetoed by former Governor Ed Rendell last year. The first-term legislator is optimistic that with newly-elected Governor Tom Corbett in office, his bill has a better chance.

Liberals do not trust their fellow citizens. We are all morons who would make bad choices without liberal “guidance”, hence, we cannot be trusted with firearms or there will be shootouts all over the place.
You see, liberals also do not trust us to spend our money properly or direct it to the appropriate charities, so that is why gov’t must take it and spend it for us.
Liberals do not trust people with free speech, especially those who disagree with them, so they call that free speech “hate” and try to eliminate it.
