Whenever this issue resurfaces I always wonder about something: do US firms and independent truckers have any desire to operate in Mexico? That never seems to be mentioned, but my guess is many US truckers want no part of Mexico due to the lawlessness that’s getting worse instead of better.

This is probably just one more, one-way deal where US jobs will be lost and none gained to offset the losses.

When I built trailers for Mexican transport they had to have reinforced roofs since the gangs would tie several concreter blocks to a cable and drop it on the trailers from an overpass. The roof of the trailer would be ripped open and the driver would have to stop. While he sat helpless in the tractor the trailer would be emptied.

Plus having to pay “gratuities”.
